Pasadena Night Rides

Last night, I met Jpconrad over at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, and he took me on a route he does regularly. It was serene, had very little traffic with wide streets and nice views (South Pas houses are unbelievable!). I really enjoyed the route, got 22 miles in 1.5 hours and was surprised at how little traffic there was (stoplights and stop signs for sure, but not too bad). Anyway, he and I are going to start riding that or a similar route during the week since the Griffth Park ride is now defunct.

We are also planning to ride up to Chantry Flats sometime next week which will be more of a climbing ride. Both rides will not start until 7:15 or 7:30pm and the meeting sport is LOT K at the RB for the Pasadena ride and off of Walnut Ave. for the Chantry Ride (John will have to post the address for that location – or if you PM him, he will provide). Anyone who would like to join, is welcomed. I will bump this thread each week to indicate that the ride is on.

Oh, and I forgot my camera last night, or I would have gotten a pic of Darwin, the cutest little bulldog ever! John's DW came out with him last night. It was so nice to meet her and hopefully she'll be joining on a BF ride sometime.

By the way, RoadFix, there is plenty of opportunity for you to pose with coffee as there is a coffee house on the way back from Chantry.

Thank you, Mary. Back from Chantry, a good posing spot is at Starbucks at the corner of Sierra Madre & Baldwin Ave. Coldstone's is next door. Actually, that particular corner also happens to be the finishing spot for the Sat morning Montrose ride. I always pose there with a few others every time I do this ride. Not only posers, but OCP's are present as well.

We may add that as well, and I'm sure John will want to go up there! You'll have to push me up it.

John mentioned that last night. Also, you're familiar with Sr. Fish?

Which route did you take? Just wondering. I still have many routes stuck in my head (even after being away for 7 years).

Grand & Mission, across the street from Trader Joe's? We sometimes have lunch there after the Montrose ride. Popular post ride lunch stop but not a very good posing spot as this place does not have a patio. Food is excellent though.

We went down the Arroyo Seco and through South Pasadena, ending up a the Huntington and then back. Don't know the exact street names, but mostly residential (Huntington, Arden, Circle, etc.)

Maybe...

It's really convenient for me because I ride past it every day on the way home from work.

Yeah, I like their food. I used to go there when I road with a group last year. We'd take off from Alhambra and ride up to the Rose Bowl, into the canyons and then back to Senior Fish. But true, not conducive to posing!

I used to live near Arroyo Seco... on Grand, just off California. :::sniff::: I miss trees. I miss Pasadena.

Well, except for the "heat" part.

Yes, Joy, and you have that little thing called the ocean to help you forget all about the trees.

Yup, that's my old stomping grounds. Probably went through Mission or Monterey, then to Meridian and back. There are a few nice hills if you head a little west, over to La Loma and San Rafael ... that's actually the longer loop of our Coffee Shop ride on Sundays, when I do visit. Not bad, but just enough to get you heart pumping. I love the downhill, coming off of Colorado into Linda Vista then down into the bowl. You can pick up some pretty good speed going down there.

Anyone up for a Friday after work ride? I'll be working from Monterey Park on Friday.

Wow, John. Now if you'd only add the old Pup-n-Taco on Lake Avenue, you'd have my whole "This is Your Life" tour going!

jpconrad -- do you live on Locust?

A couple of weeks ago, I saw someone (on a Trek, I think, could be wrong) who was doing a few laps around Locust/Corson at night. I was walking home from Fuller, where I am a student. Was that you?

I might do a ride tonight from Rose Bowl, up to Altadena, south on Sierra Madre, cut through San Marino via Monterey, and back to the bowl. But still not sure yet ... anyone ?
