Why did you name your bicycle Vivian, which is typically a woman's name?

Why not? The name seemed to suit her. As for why a girl's name, I decided my prima donna would be a girl, and my workhorse would be a boy.

can't remember what though.

Those of you stuck inside while it rains, if you want a taste of bike racing history, check out the video section of velonews.com which is showcasing a documentary about the early 70's "Raleigh Boys" US racing team. Those are the years I got into road bike riding, not because of racing, but because of the bikes, which fascinated me deeply. That team, with the sponsorship of Raleigh bicycles, helped bring America back to the European racing scene as a serious contender. The vintage footage (most likely shot on 16 or 8mm film) is phenomenal. They're also showcasing the 1973 Ireland tour from the Raleigh team perspective. On a personal note, I ride a Raleigh bike.

Finally got my right pedal off! I decided to replace the pedals on my old cannondale, but had a dickens of a time getting it off. I got it off by forcing the other pedal to butt up against the under side of the door in my storage area. Anybody else had issues removing their pedals? It's probably just me ...

Second ride of the year...doubled yesterday's mileage....did 11.4 today....between storms...not much but building back in after a few very slow weeks. Monday is swim day and then back on the bike for Tuesday's 14 miler.

No rain on me, which was good, although I secretly hoped for some moisture so I could return to the house with that manly "yeah, so I rode in the rain" attitude!

While I was outside, my wife Vicki was on the trainer doing a session with Coach Troy; our latest purchase being his 'virtual' ride where he is on his bike for about 50 minutes and you are riding behind him getting tips ("stay on my wheel') and watching via his helmet cam or a shot from a follow car.

This DVD rocks....we both always come off the trainer sweating.

So, I rode outside, with cold fingers and feet and wet streets. Vicki rode indoors in beautiful Maryland, no traffic, great scenery, warm everything and no worries. Which one of us had the better ride?

Sheldon

My year has included rain, a nasty cold, and exactly zero miles on the bike.

Hi,

Interestingly enough we are planning to go to Santouka in Costa Mesa this evening. We are going based on a newspaper review. I guess they're a small chain. Anyone been to one?
