I'm heading up hwy 39 again on Saturday with a couple of friends Renee the double champ, and Irene from Bicycle John's. Wish me luck or come along and give me moral support. Leave at 8am from Encanto Park in Duarte.

Wow, another glorious day in the San Gabriels. We climbed up to AC and I went down to the East Fork and did Little GMR for a total of 9200ft. in 75 miles. Not too hot ,not too cold, and the wind wasn't a factor. What a great day in the mountains. I looked for Redal but saw only 2 other riders up there on 39. Too bad, I can't think of a better road to have been on today.

Bob, you always have a good ride! But I'm glad to hear that this was another one. Weather was great today. It's tomorrow that may be the issue. It's howling outside my french doors. My wind chimes go crazy and then suddenly die down again. Weird.

I was up there but much later. I did the Montrose ride first and then rode up through Azusa Cyn, across East Fork and up and over GMR. There were lots of riders coming down the canyon when we were going up and I thought I saw Irene. There were 6 of us up that went up so you must have been up there before everyone.

^Thanks ME, how are you? This might be a good day to go up Angeles Crest. I've found it to be sheltered from most of the wind and once in a while it's a helping wind. Remember the time we rode up to the tunnels, the wind was blowing a gale but it didn't bother us at all. Do not go over to the Angeles Forest/ Big Tujunga side though, that's where the wind will be howling.

I did the last hour and a half. I got in in Azusa. My plan was to sleep in and go ride in the mountains. My friend called at 8:15 and we were riding a little before 9:00. He wanted to catch the last half of the ride since we hadn't done it in a while either. As the ride makes its way through San Dimas it goes by directly north of my house. If I am that late I will just ride straight up to Gladstone and go reverse of the ride until I see them.

It was howling up there today. I knew it gets windy up there on these kind of days as I've been up there in the past on windy days. Still, my intention was to go up 39, across east fork, up GMR and then across GRR to Baldy. It was really bad so I wimped out and went down GMR. However, this wouldn't have made my ride long enough so I went back up GMR to the first descent. I just didn't want to be on GRR with all the wind, since one of the windiest points of the day was when I had got up to the ridge. It was so windy at the General Store when I stopped for water that a motorcycle got blown over. I had to laugh a little since the guy had got a little closer than necessary when he had passed me.
