I thought I smelled smoke this morning. But I am so sensitive, it could have been someone having a cigarette in Reno.

We called off the ride anyway. Too windy.

Thanks for the heads up.

I thought my house was going to rip off it's foundation from the winds last night, it is still pretty bad.

Is it windy out there? Sad to hear about the fire! Thanks, Joy, for the heads up but I had already called off the ride in fear of the wind.

Santa Ana winds last night..was blowing to the west. Some areas got hurricane like winds up to 80 mph. Forecasters expect the high winds to continue through Sunday.

If you plan to ride, carry plenty of liquids....the air is going to be pretty dry and dusty. Might consider bringing/wearing a scarf or breathing mask, the wind blown dust might have a lot of fungus spores in it...aka valley fever.

I just got back. No wind at all yet.

I did Turnbull Canyon this morning. It was OK, a steady 6-7% for 2-1/2 miles. Nothing spectacular, but the scenery was nice and very peaceful. I saw lots of deer. The descent was very technical, which I liked. I thought Turnbull ended at Hacienda and I was hoping to climb back up Colima, but somehow I ended up north of the 60 freeway. So I just backtracked the way I came. Then I did repeats of the Spyglass loop, which turned out to be good interval training. Going clockwise, there is a 2-block section on Spyglass with a steady 20-21% grade. Afterwards is a nice "recovery" section of 14%.

Nice morning for a ride. Still waiting for the winds to show up....

I saw this on the news an hour ago and called my parents. They live about 5-10 miles north of the fire.

...and it's still dead calm here in the Hollywood/Silverlake area. I was able to ride no hands almost all the way into work this morning.

We smelled smoke last night. Winds are fierce out here. I had to go into the West Valley to check out our computer network at work and it's worse there, with tons of debris and downed trees. Was going to do a short ride but with so much garbage flying around, it's not worth it. Anyhow got in 40 miles yesterday.

Could see the smoke from the Malibu fire as I drove along. Based on TV reports plus the winds, this is going to be a bad one. Topanga and Malibu Canyon are closed at Mulholland.

I had a friend who lived on Malibu Road north of the Colony years ago and we spent a night sweating out a brush fire like this that came down the hills. It was soooo scary.

Low wind in sherman oaks, but definitely dust in the air. I was considering going for a ride, but after being out there, I'm definitely a gym rat today.

I just got back from Pasadena ... no wind at all, so I guess it's all on the west side. It was actually quite pleasant.

I called Ron and he was okay (around 9:00am morning). I'm hoping the winds stay in his favor.

All good here so far, I can't even smell smoke in the air. As long as the winds stay this way, the wind is really pushing the fire right to the ocean. Unfortunately there is a lot of property between the fire and the ocean out there.

I do have a suitcase packed just in case.

Thanks for checking in

No wind really in Palos Verdes. Did twice around this morning and the wind was pretty tame.

We have a fire just above Santa Rosa Road, between Moorpark and Camarillo, now burning. Smoke from that fire is hugely thick here. Vicki and I went to Soup Plantation in Camarillo for lunch and the sky was totally dark when we came out. The cloud is blowing our way now and just covers the skies. Breathing sucks and the wind is still blowing very hard. Very ominous....don't even like being outside now.

I heard today on the news that they had lots of folks out evacuating the animals, especially the horses. Horses scare very easily and don't need that kind of stress.
