This is one of the few rides worth paying for.

It would be worth more if I didn't have to register for it today.

Haha. It sells out fast, but it's really worth it. I'm gonna try and convince my dad to sign up, since I just got him a road bike. He's pretty fit, he'll be able to do it.

Since it's soooooooooooooo far, what's so great about this ride? Is it all downhill? Nitrous Oxide at the rest stops? What?

The scenery is pretty amazing. The roads are in good shape. Very little traffic.

If it's like last year you can say you've done 50 miles of really strong headwinds in the middle of nowhere.

Since I did it last year AND I want to see the race schedule for next year I doubt that it will still be open when I'd be ready to make a decision. Oh well.

The scenery IS amazing - but the roads are TERRIBLE. I was camping in DV at the end of October and did some riding out there. Not much traffic, but what's out there drives fast.

I took turns with my girlfriend sagging. Definitely need support out there. There's nothing but scenery and sand and road.

Roads for the Fall Double were all great. Especially compared to that ridiculously punishing homestretch on the Eastern Sierra Double.

Last spring this ride was a lot of fun other than the 50mph head winds. It is a trek to get there and everything in DV is expensive, but if we get a large enough group I would be interested in doing it again.

The roads were in good shape, IMO. Where did you ride that was bad?

I've ridden and sagged in Death Valley several times. Nighttime is even better.

I'm hoping you're right. I'm registered.

Your report and pics from the fall double were excellent.

Thanks!

Riding through Death Valley is like riding on another planet. The sheer size of it makes it almost surreal. I think the roads are in good shape... I've ridden so much worse in LA. There were a few bumpy stretches here and there, but you wont be on any of those roads on the Spring Ride. (Spring and Fall follow different routes) The support people are cool, and the stops have everything you'll need (I brought two water bottles, but you could probably get away with just one)

Like I said, one of the only supported rides I'll pay to do. Have an awesome time!
