Talent Other Than Cycling?
Ok, not me cause I really have no talent other than,...ummm.errrr, nevermind, this isn't about me! I have ridden with another rider from this forum a few times. He mentioned that he had a band. He's a bit older than I and very mild mannered. Said he was the drummer. But he is so mild that I'm thinking a polka or Oom-Pah-Pah band. OOOOOHHHHH I was SOOOO WRONG!
I told the guy I loved music and bands. I play a guitar but suck bigtime so I know just how hard it is to be a good musician and how much talent is required. He ends up sending me a couple of tracks the band recorded. Holy smokes it's classic rock. I'm a big fan! I listen to the recordings, about 5 songs. I have to ask Gina if they are the originals they sound so good. I thought the guy was trying to pull a fast one on me.
So I tell the guy to let me know when and where they play cause I'd love to watch. Few months go by and I figure I'll never get to hear the band. Then one day I get the email, private concert with only a few friends. So we show up ready for the music. When we get there, the guy is BBQ'in burgers. Wow, food too, now I'm really happy!
The band is setting up,sound checking and right away I can tell the guys are excellent musicians. I'm sitting there thinking this is going to be good. 5 guys, 2 guitars, drummer, keyboards, bass. The host slaps a couple of burgers on me then heads for the drums. They welcome the crowd of maybe 20 as it's a private show. Then they start playing and HOOOLY COW! These guys are GREAT! The guy is pounding the drums with perfection. I kept looking for a mistake saying to myself 'he won't be able to play this part' and sure enough he does. I only think such a thing as I would expect only the pros to play that well. They played a couple of sets, maybe 3 hours. Everything song was exciting. The band filled with humor and the music played in perfection. Out of the 5 guys, 4 were singers which made for a good variety.
To have spoken with the cyclist I would think that he wouldn't be a singer or a drummer. Like I said, he's a mild guy. I was really shocked when he sang a few of the songs. A strong bold but smooth voice. I'm totally shocked! Lead singer had a great voice and played the guitar really well. The lead guitarist was more than great. I swear the guy played on the original recordings. Bass player was thumpin' the bass like a madman, Keyboard dude was great too. But the drummer, a mild cyclist pounding the drums like that? WOW!
Spoke with them between sets and after the show as they were looking for some feedback on the performance. I find it hard to believe that they haven't played before a crowd. They had in other bands but not in their present one. They mentioned they were looiking for maybe a bar gig. I've heard some Vegas lounge bands and thought they were really good but these guys were better in my opinion. I would think Vegas at the very least. My cousin is in a band that plays at bars and these guys TOTALLY blow them away! When they do get a bar gig, Man THEY ARE GONNA BRING DOWN THE HOUSE!
I'm still stunned that the band was that good. That's TALENT! I don't think I'll ever look at the guy the same way ever again knowing he's THAT GOOD, and not just a cyclist
I won't mention his name without permission. I don't want to be responsible for attracting the stalkers!
Anybody else got TALENT other than cycling?.....and no, last time I checked, spanking eachother's bottoms wasn't considered a talent!

I once got to level 20 on Tetris and won a competition in Hawaii at my high school. I can think of no better talent than that.

I was a chess master in another life. I'm officially "retired' now, in part because tournaments take two full weekend days, and since I have a desk job during the week, there would be no time for any physical activity.

I didn't think about that but yeah, you're right. When I bowled in the league 15 years ago, we used aluminum balls!

I know how to work a microscope... Oh wait, that's my job.
I play piano and bass guitar, i can build computers, and do a fair bit of wrenching on my car. Beyond that, i've got nuthin'. Maybe.

I have no other talents. Except hitting Go_Fast when I feel like it.
Although ME would disagree. She thinks I do the head-tilt-smile thing quite well.

You tilt the head just right, darling...or so I've heard. And you got out of a ticket doing it. That cop was most impressed with your talent to work it. Don't sell yourself short...or for less than $60.
