Got a ticket today ......

....... for running a stop sign. We were flying I mean we were hauling @ss at less than 8 mph. My friend said we were going 5. We were in Redondo on the Esplanade some where around Ave F. The cop said our fault was not running the sign, because he doesn't expect us to put our foot down because it's so hard to get our foot unclipped but, doing so while pedaling. Did I mention we were going the blazing speed of 5-8 mph, at that speed I need to pedal just to stay up-right. He said we should have been coasting. Wow, I thought we were almost stopped at that speed. There was no traffic waiting at any of the signs, no one even close to or in the crosswalk.

So, does anyone know how much the fine will be?

thanks

My seventeen year old daughter just got her first auto driving ticket...not coming to a complete stop at a stop.

$177 plus traffic school...

Are fines lower for bikes? I'm an angel I never get cited so I wouldn't know...

What I do know about car tickets..
Running a stop/red is a healthy fine.
Speeding is half as much.
So drive fast, but be sure to stop.

Make sure the cop put "bicycle" on the ticket, that way it doesn't go against your driving
record ( points).

It's all Happytime's fault. She's an outlaw in Redondo and the police are just miffed.

In San Diego, generally, yes.

If you have to do traffic school you have to share your story in class. The teacher and students will get a fun laugh out of it.

Dude, if you're going to run a stop sign you should at least be smart enough to look around and make sure there aren't any police watching you.

I decided to fight the ticket, went before a judge or commissioner or whatever, asked him point-blank in open court if cops are under pressure to raise revenue for revenue-starved communities, and this guy looked me straight in the face and said NO.

I mean, I was expecting him to hem and haw around the truth, but he** no, he lied outright.

I ended up at traffic school, asked the instructor the same question at breaktime, and he, being a retired cop, told me YES. Cops are pressured in very subtle ways by their superiors to write those tickets, and plenty of them at that.

Oh, the rolling stop was in a car, not on a bike.

There is no quota (I believe they may be illegal), but when Officer Jones isn't giving enough tickets out by the end of the month, he's going to hear it from his CO.

If you didn't see the cop (I assume in a marked patrol car) before running the stop sign how good did you look ? Maybe the ticket will give you the incentive to take a good look before you run the next one. Who knows, maybe he saved your life on a future ride.

That depends on where the cop was, doesn't it? I don't know about you, but I look left, right, and straight ahead before crossing an intersection, but rarely behind me.

oh man.... time to trade in the fixed gear... I can't coast a stop sign on it.

Reminds me of when I was in junior high... when joking around about stopping at stop signs I would bunny off and clip the brakes to stop the tires in mid air.... sounds good enough for that officer.

I ride that stretch of road multiple times per week as do hundreds of other cyclist. I have NEVER seen a cyclist make a complete stop at a stop sign on Catalina or the Esplande, unless of course a vehicle got to the intersection first. I'm totally bummed to hear that you got a ticket... I have no idea how much it will be, but will definitely be looking out for black and whites in the future.

all i can say is(quotas, conspiracies, and masonic interference aside...), run a sign get a ticket, its been that way since well before any of us were even born. it doesnt matter if "everyone" does it if yer the "only one" who gets caught. take yer medicine and stop next time.
