Yes, I'm crazy enough!
My "reasoning" (if you want to call it that) is that it's time for me to challenge myself with some of the more daunting doubles. I rode Mt.Tam last year . . . that was the first step.
Mulholland is step two. If that goes well (subject to personal definition), Devil Mountain will be step 3, then (if that goes well), Central Coast and Terrible Two.
So maybe "crazy" isn't strong enough. "Insane" may be closer to the truth. But hey, it beats sitting on the couch!

Watched a lot of them pass through Topanga this morning, saw Dan, Matt, Mel, Grumpy, and Karen. It was cool and windy then. It's warm already though. eesh.

I'm back in SD. Crashed... again. Oh well. Better luck for KOM next year for me. Otherwise, everything is fine. It was a very nice ride for the 54 miles that I've done.
My C'dale is back in the shop.

Just poor judgment on my part. Bumpy roads + high speed turning descends -> disaster. I underestimated the bumps on braking before a turn -> too high a speed -> front wheel slid on the side of the road.
Well, enough of my crash for now. Let's wait for the stories of those that finished it this year.

Right there with ya crash brother, I only made it to mile 25 before I was descending old topanga, dropped my jacket and turned around to see where it was (big mistake) hit some gravel skid of the road and hit the only hole in sight narrowly missing a guard rail. Up and over the bars with minor injuries, swollen ankle, (no break) and a sore back from landing on my cell phone. Snapped the carbon bars off one side and ground down the speedplay on the same side. Gotta pull the fork off to give it a good once over, the bike was unscathed otherwise. I was expecting worse as I was watching it slide from the right side of the road all the way across to the left shoulder.
sore Bob
I think I know where you crashed Dave, that bumpy left turn going towards yuerba buena, or on,( maybe cotharin ?) where sirlanceimnot crashed 2years ago?

Ouch! Sorry to hear, Bob.
Dave, since you're back down in SD, if you want to go out for dinner later, give me a call.

Wow, hope you recover quickly Bob!
My computer says 53.47 miles, which is ~4 miles after check point #2. Route slip says Yerba Buena, and I did crash on a left hand turn. Not sure if it's the same one though, although in my case, I really think it's due to my poor judgment of the road conditions.
I'm back in SD, but will have to attend a friend's bday dinner tonight. We can always go out some other time though.

Quick summary with possibly more later. 2 flats both on the front wheel. The first was climbing decker which wasn't very eventful. The second on descending Mulholland around mile 80 something scred me to death. Sliding all over yet I managed to get it it stopped without any crashing. After that I just kind of enjoyed the view and finished in 7:59 according to my Garmin. Not as fast as I was hoping but I guess not terrible.
Nice to meet Joy for the first time and good seeing Scootcore, Grumpy Pig, and WhiteCarbonDude again. And I forgot to say hi to Karen when I passed her.

39.3 mile at CP1 - Saw some BF friend so the camera went to work.. (Grampy didn't realize me at first)
Indolent58 - all smiles (at mile 39)
Kar3368 / Pink Hammer; same all smiles, but at the end of the ride she lost it (the smile)
Dave (no blood just yet), in the background you can see scvroadie pose
and a private scvroadie pose photo
mkadam68 at mile 49.6 CP2
CP3, top of (now hated) Decker - mile 71.5. Half of the people taking cold shower in the water refill station

Me at the top of Stunt road - 88.8mile into the ride. It look like I am all smiles but I am so 'dead'...
The mini CP at the top of Stunt road:
Ride Report: this challange S U C K S - to hard, to hot, many mile you are a lone fighting to go on.
Now that I am back near a computer I a bit more positive but during the ride it was not enjoyable. I can't even imagine the 200mile ride. True stars anyone that did it.
