It is!!! Very fast group, you will be pulled along in the peloton at 24-30 MPH with little effort...

Mt wilson is way better, though not quite as large a group. PCH is definitely an easier ride.

It's fun, but only needs to be done once. It's not the safest group, and I think I'd prefer to do a long ride with a few bros.

Hi,
I wrote about this ride last year. I guess it's worth doing once but it is far from safe and some of the local constables have a grudge about the ride which doesn't help.

I did that a long time ago, and it was a huge, friggin' huge pack, but there was a big pile up down by Laguna. If you do go, be very careful, and try to get either way up in front, and trail behind in back.

Mark, if you decide to do the Wilson ride, you could start at CSUN with some of the guys, or drive to Sunland and meet at Oro Vista at 9:00. The route is up Big T to Angeles Forest to Angeles Crest. From there people decide whether to go down to Foothill or up to Red Box and maybe on up to Wilson, depending on the weather. The racers start up Big T at 10:00, or so. I like to stay out of their way.
There is a group that starts in Van Nuys, too.
I've done this ride when there were 200 riders.

Wouldn't miss this one but since this will be my first ride in almost 3 weeks, I'll start in Glendale and go up AC to Wilson. It's a little easier with a much smaller chance of a howling wind. This ride is a good chance to try out all the winter gear I got for Xmas.Expect it to be in the low 30's on the Wilson road . It's on the north side of the mountain, brrrrrrrrrrr. This ride is as close a I come to a Polar Bear Club event.

Kool. I plan to ride PCH one, if I can manage to drag myself out of bed and I don't have a huge hangover.

The annual Orange County California New Years Day Critical Mass ride starts on Jan 1st at 8AM in Long Beach. It is approx 100 Miles heading south on PCH to Dana Point, then inland through south Orange County. It heads through Irvine and Newport Beach before hitting PCH for the last 20 miles. This ride is attended by various ******bags.

I wouldn't call the PCH ride a critical mass ride at all. It's typically a bunch of racers, ex-racers, wannabe racers, and friends of racers. The people at the front are trying to drop everyone else.
If you do it, watch out after Corona Del Mar. The crashes usually occur on the rollies going into Laguna Beach. Once you hit downtown Laguna Beach it pretty much breaks up into small packs.
