I Wanna Ride, But the Rain!!!!!!!!

It's driving me crazy! It was supposed to pour yesterday so I volunteered to work a Saturday for once. The entire day not one drop here from 6 am to 8pm. Road was dry but all I could do is look outside and wish I was on the bike.

I was hoping to ride this morning but it's raining. Gina has been sick all week and I wanted to take advantage and so some climbing. Maybe the ground will dry up today so I can get in my fix. I don't mind getting wet and I don't mind the traffic if I don't have Gina with me. What I don't like is riding my bike in the water. Everytime I've taken the bike out in the rain, I get that grinding feeling in the BB area. Must be the water, grit and whatever else can get inside. Just annoys the heck out of me!

I've done 42 milers on SART on an old mtb in the POURING rain. It was so cool out there. Encountered maybe 3 riders max! But don't have that bike anymore!....Soaking wet but exhilarating! A little cold but wringing out the water from the duds was fun!

What stops you from riding in the rain? Traffic, getting wet, the muggers?

Having to clean the bike afterwards. With the mtb, I just hose it off, lube the chain, and put it away. With the road bike, I feel compelled to do a more thorough job -- which I hate.

I got up and put on some bibs and a jersey but changed my mind and went to the gym instead. I don't like to ride in the rain. Might go for a short ride in the FG later this morning.

Fenders make riding in the rain enjoyable. Besides, muggers pay no attention to fendered riders...

Rain + Wind (high) stops me. Where I live there are a lot of palm tree that line the streets and you never know when those leaves will break off and many times it seems like you are dodging carpet bombing by a fleet of B-52's. And that's not mentioning all the palm tree seeds on the road...add cars swerving around that mess and it becomes rather interesting if you are a thrill seeker. No quick maneuvers in those conditions or you will be eating dirt/asphalt and tending your wounds.

Thru me off cause he said "IN" the FG. If he had said "ON" I could have figured it out. Maybe a typo. I know my typing sucks but I don't expect these typos from the others!

Yup, have to agree with you Sci-Fi. Up Euclid Ave (Upland) there are several pepper trees (?). Certain season, the wind blows the lil leaves all over the bikelane. Even without rain they stick to the bike. I end up picking leaves outta my teeth when I get home. I can imagine the mess with the water and rain!

Yeah! Yeah! But you don't need to train. Even without it, you're still gonna kick my *** in the KOM!

I meant "on the fixed gear" but my subconcious must have been thinking "stay in and watch field goals on TV".

Pine cones *almost* stop me from riding in the rain. I don't mind getting wet, and I'm not that scared of idiots driving in the rain, but pine cones hitting you in the face while riding? Blah. Rode from the bf's place to mine this morning and I got pelted by those darn cones!

I think I have a better chance of getting hit by a golf ball riding around the Rose Bowl.

I love riding, but I don't need to ride in the rain. I enjoy the time off a bit now and then. Heck, we don't see enough rain in So. Cal to make much of a difference.

Plus, when the sun comes out it makes the rides even more enjoyable.

Beanzer, I went out yesterday on the MTB all geared up with my snowboarding Jacket etc fully prepared for rain but no luck....
I did find some nice little offroad trails on the BB though....

It equated to 3 hours riding and 1 hour cleaning the Bike, it was much worse than the Pic below when I got home

I don't mind riding in a little rain (not much experience in rain though) and puddles or even thru some wind (little breeze or gusts are okay). It came down hard, here in fullerton, on Friday night so I didn't even think of preparing for a Saturday morning ride. I figured it was continue into the next day. All day Saturday it looked like rain with nasty looking clouds, but only a few sprinkles here and there. I think I could have sneaked in a little ride that day. I was hoping it would be the same kind of weather today (Sunday), but it really hasn't stopped coming down all morning. I think I'm going stir-crazy. I know how you feel Beanz. GET ME OUT OF HERE!

Nothing. Ive ridden in it the past 2 days in a row. Actually its kinda serene. Just dress properly and its no biggie. The bike rolls slower, and its a bit more work. I am much more cautious descending too. The bright side is the air is very clean and the after ride feeling is great. As long as ya keep riding its not bad at all. Oh yeah, the fender is a must.
