Is Vision Quest is more than a bike race?

Or is it merely one of the nation's toughest mountain bike races? Many would say yes. But for one O.C. woman it was more than a quest, it was a mission for a fallen friend. You'll find her story here. In her own words.

I actually cried reading that, David, and I'm not one who likes to admit to crying. Wow. What an amazing woman, and the thing most impressive about her was that she didn't let one failed attempt keep her from triumphing and finishing the race second time around - and all in the memory of her fallen friend. Thank you for sharing this.

I remember when Christy Kirkwood was killed. That was a sad day...

The Trail Angels have been great, encouraging women to hit the dirt. I like them. I like what they do.

There's a lot going on in Orange County for mountain bikers.

Hey Warrior's Society is doing a benefit ride this year for autism. There was a new poster here recently, asking about autism rides...

I did* the VQ this year and saw her accept an award at the finish, honoring her for the dedication to her friend. It was quite a moving moment. What a great way to remember a lost friend.

Thanks for the link David. WAIT! You wrote it! Nice job!

*when I say "did" I mean "made it 40 miles in and DNF'd from cramping and missing time cutoffs." Good stuff. My buddy EndoVerendo finished. This is not childs play! (we're both insane and raced singlespeeds w/o suspension).

One of my coworkers has a Trail Angels sticker on her car. I think she rides with them. She's like 4 times cooler than me, and has really encouraged me to get off the road and onto the dirt.

I've ridden with the Trail Angels and they really are an awesome group. Tough as heck. But welcome women of all abilities too! Thanks for the kind words. Debbie and Christy's husband will be grateful. Truly.
