Tour de Sewer ride report + Video

Sorry, this isn't going to be a very good report but here goes anyway...

I made a huge mistake on Saturday, I rode the 62 mile route of the TDS, well, actually, it wasn't the ride's fault, it was mine...
It started the week before when I got sick, I stayed off the Bike all week (because I had to) and I thought I'd be well enough to do the ride, I normally get everything prepared the night before...

Bike. Check
Helmet. Check
Shoes. Check

You know how it goes...but I was just too tired and thought I'd do it at 5am in the morning, 2am I was still awake coughing...

5 am soon came around, my Buddy was gonna pick me up at 6 so I'd better get my Arse into gear...

I dosed up with cocktail of Advil, cold medicine, sinus pills...brilliant, I felt awesome!!

We got off to a good start http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFTkT...eature=related and everything was fine, then I suddenly got deathly sick...it turned into one of those Days where I was seriously considering crashing on the Bike so I could lay on the road and wait for the medics to put me into a nice warm Ambulance...

I struggled to the end, I was just so miserable, it was like a megga bonk, a never ending one that only got worse, I can't even remember the route so I'm glad I took some Video...

I'll deffinately do it again next year but I learned my lesson, never commit when you're too sick to ride, the same thing happened on a BF group ride last year...

Does anyone have any happy reports of the ride?

Been riding every Sat and Sunday on SART. Gina has been suffering in the wind though. Maybe 25 mph'ish. Has Pocketmonkey been riding?

Hey, that "Fred" sign is still up just around the corner from us....

I'm gonna do SART with you one Sunday, If I'm invited, what cross streets do you start from?

Sorry about your bad experience. Enjoyed watching your video. What kind of setup do you have for your video camera on the bike, the video looks very steady.

Thanks for the video!

Your pace seemed pretty good in Part 2, but too bad you felt so miserable for most of it!

My report: The weather was nice. I didn't expect so much road and so little sewer.

Total time on bike: 3hr 45min.
Ave speed: 16.1 mph.
Max speed: 37.9 mph.
Ave heart rate: 144
Max HR: 186
Total ascent: 3384 ft.
No broken spokes!

Ate about 4 bananas from the stops, an orange, Gatorade, my own Powerade, Cliff shots.

Oh let the Monkey ride!.....We start from Imperial and the 91 fwy. IN-N-Out/Aaron Bros Artmart Center has a big lot (actually on Lapalma). We park at the farside near the river. Usually about 9:45'ish, give or take 15.

I have a Flip Ultra Cam which is ideal for the bike, once you turn it on there's a big red button to start or stop, I have FSA K-Wing Bars and modified the Cockpit attachment I bought from FSA to hold my light for night riding, I drilled and tapped a 1/4-20 hole, screwed a stud into it and the Cam screws directly on to the stud...
Here's another clip from the ride...

Great data! After a great start when I was feeling fine but my ave dropped to 14.6mph, I didn't care, I was just happy to get back to the Park, this was my second worst Bonk since riding if being sick can be counted as a Bonk...
Hopefully I'll be back on the bike by Friday, I've been like this off and on for almost two weeks now...

Jaguar27, did you sign up for the TDS this year? Maybe some SoCal Forum members can meet at the start!

It's a total tongue in cheek name. It's not meant literally by any means.

I'm not so sure about that...the ride doesn't contain the nicest scenery and you can almost consider the SGRT a sewer in certain places.

Some of the guys I regularly ride with were talking about doing this ride a month or so ago, but I'm not sure if anyone has actually signed up for the ride yet.

Back in the day, (about 25 years ago) I did a ride while having an asthma attack. I was famous for a few years for being able to barf off the side of the bike. I learned my lesson! :-(

Sorry, just seen this, I don't come here very often but yeah, I'm planning on doing this again, minus the Flu this time...the Guy I normally ride with on this ride was hit by a Car and is out of action, so yes, let's all meet at the start!
