Is this standard practice?

So I looked up results for LAX crapshoot, errr I mean race. They list me as DNF. I kind of understand only posting top 20 at race, but reporting DNF thats pure BS.

You finished and they listed you as DNF? That isn't right. Even if you came in dead last, it would seem you'd not be listed as DNF.

Well you are required to protest any incorrest results within 15 minutes of the resluts going up. Unfortunantly after that you're out of luck. Having said that, no they shouldn't have listed you as DNF, but it's up to you to bring that to their attention.

no, it's not standard practice. i finished literally 3 seconds behind the winner and i was also listed as a DNF. it's just laziness on their part, and when you apply for an upgrade you should just point out and question why 3/4 of the field was listed as the same. to my knowledge, there were no official DNF's in the 4's race.
the problem with protesting the results when they are posted is that no one knows that whoever doesn't happen to appear on the unofficial results list is going to go down as a DNF. the results of this race were meaningless to me, but regardless, it's just a totally irresponsible move on their part.
although i had basically given up to avoid being taken out at 40mph, i still finished in the pack. so seeing that just added insult to injury.

How could you protest that when they only post the top 20 places?

OP: Which url are you looking at to see the full results? All I can find for Cat 4 is the list of the top 23, but no mention of DNFs or the rest of the pack fodder (which was where I was)

edit: OK I found it on the USAC website. I see that everybody not on the posted results were listed as DNF. I guess that means I'll be lodging a protest at every event where I don't show up on the results. "Hey, I don't see my name, but I finished 64th! May I view the video, please?"

Kind of hard to protest when they only list top 20 at the race, on their website, and just report DNF to usacycling. Very lazy officials. Before someone asks "Why does it matter, upgrade points don't go so deep?" It matters to me.

I thought pack finishes count toward upgrading from 4s. Not that I'd upgrade without a podium finish, but someone might want to.

Hmm I thought you needed points. In either case, I don't think I would want to upgrade based on number of races from 4 to 3. That sounds like upgrading just for the sake of upgrading rather then fitness/skill level.

From the USAC website

Quote:
4-3: 20 points in any 12-month period; or experience in 25 races with a minimum of 10 top ten finishes with fields of 30 riders or more, or 20 pack finishes with fields over 50. 30 points in 12 months is an automatic upgrade
But yeah, upgrading when you can't get on the podium isn't usually a good idea, except maybe to help teammates in the higher cat.

Hi,

Unfortunately it is standard practice. In the good old days, you were lucky if they posted the paying places.

It does kind of boggle my mind that running race organizers can keep track of thousands of runners in a 10K but bicycle race organizers can't place less than 100 cyclists. However, that's the way it's been for forever (or at least as long as I've been racing).

Must be SoCal thing. Every race I did in NorCal everyone was placed.

in the old days they picked by eye, no cameras no video. you were lucky to get top six listed. the good new was that there always 20 guys who claimed to have placed in the top ten

don't feel so bad about being listed as dnf, i placed 7th or 8th in the 35+ race and should have got some sort of prize but i was not able to check the unofficial results as i was racing the next race and when i was done the results were official and to late to change. they didn't have me listed at all.

thanks, mr.+mrs. umd, i'd love to see some of the 35+ race finish if you have any. i was 7th or 8th on a dark green cannondale and my team kit is white, yellow, gray and black and had a yellow number and was closer to the booth at the finish line

This was the only finish we got besides the 3s, 4s, and 5s. I'm not sure which race it was, but it was the one that ended right before the 3s and 4s started.

good shot! that's me to left of the winner, looks like i was 6th or 7th from the pic with the white sleeves and yellow/red shoes. can't tell if there was anyone to the right of the frame. from the shadow it look like there might be on rider behind the winner that we can't see but i can see his shadow. that' would make me 7th or 8th, i don't know if i beat the ironfly or not (the guy in the light blue/dark blue that's crossing the same line as me in the photo)

i'm sort of glad i wasn't in the points as i have 12 of the 25 points i need for cat 2 and missing those 1 or 2 points would really bother me.

Usually they list it as DNS instead of DNF
