You should make this into an actual poll.

Absolutely the SoCal sub-forum here should continue.

Do we need a poll?

While the activity here has died down, it certainly isn't a dry as the Africa sub-forum.

Based on the poll results at the time, the new business would not have started.

I agree, but what would a poll prove?

The other 'Envision SoCal Community' poll had 59 voters. Of those 59, 51 said either:

b. I really would prefer the So Cal community to stay here but without the issues it’s been facing.

or

c. I’ll go either way - but no more disruptive members!

A poll would gauge the true commitment of the members here to improve their little bit of the community.

Actually I mispoke. There are tiny ads that I hardly noticed. Kind of spoils an otherwise perfect business model.

I would guess that the poll result would remain similar to what it was a year ago. It's just that some recent things have pushed a few used-to-be-neutral members not so neutral anymore.

If the intent of bringing up the old poll link is to indicate how unsettling the group is, then I think it failed miserably.

So, a commercial site, just like this one, correct?

Did you ask rhetorically, or were you going to acknowledge legitimate replies?

If you want to call it that, but it's a stretch. I would guess that JP signed up to Google Adsense to offset some of his costs. It's not that hard to set up a forum using vBulletin, but you have to buy the software ($160) and pay for hosting. I don't know the specifics but I would think that a site would have to have a lot more traffic than JP's will get before Google Adsense revenue would be more than a trickle or fully offset hosting costs.

Pretty much everyone who sets up a special interest or hobby forum does the same thing.

True (note my signature). However, it's still a commercial site unless the person who set it up wants to pay for the hosting, and to remove ads.

If many of you chipped in $25 to BikeForums, how hard would it be to chip in a few bucks to pay for the vB license?

I know that my little board, commercial as it is, does not have anything bad to say about BikeForums. It doesn't have anything bad to say about anyone...

You must be doing something wrong. Those vintage bike people are normally a cutthroat bunch.

You have not visited our very own Classic & Vintage forum, have you? The folks there are some of the nicest people around, bar none.

Actually, my site is just a storage place for all my bike photos . I'm not looking to have people join up, but it was created for me by a friend, and he wanted the practice of setting up a site.

C&V is nearly a model forum, in my opinion.

Why can't we get some of whatever it is they've got over here??

I think that was a joke, East Hill. Indolent is known for his sarcasm.

I am usually better known for my quirky sense of humour . I'm trying to play it straight here !
