Alpine Challenge - April 26

Anybody doing it? Grumpy? Mo'? Indolent? Mr. Beanz?
I'll be in for the 60-miler and for a beer after the ride with Andy Hampsten. Apparently he'll be riding too.
Here is the link if you are interested.

I've never met Andy, so that part would be fun, but I'm already signed up for the Wildflower on that date, plus I'm thinking about selling my Wildflower ticket and riding the Devil Mountain Double instead . . . which is also on the same date.

That's the big problem (if you would call it that) with SoCal rides, i.e. too many on the same date, so you couldn't ride all of them, even if you wanted to (and could afford to), but whatever. Still, it's better than not having any organized rides!

I haven't signed up yet, but I think I will do it. Any reason why you're not riding the 72 miles route?

Jimmy's legs are only good for 100 KM. So he's good for the 60, but the 72 would be too far.

Exception: Ride Around the Bear.

I have registered the past two years, but work has kept me from making the trip down both years. Once again, I plan to be there, but will wait until the morning of to register.

Basically, what Rick said - my legs are not good for more than 100 kms. Actually he's been flattering by ommitting the word "flat". By the way, the Bear is not an exception. In theory it is a century, but for me it is more like 4 rides of 25 miles each. I spend about 50 minutes at the rest stops on that ride.
Anyway, the Alpine 60-miler has close to 6,000 feet of climbing - more than enough for me.

Jimmy; I'm skipping it this year.

3 reasons-

My company isn't a sponsor it this year. My boss was always being solicited by Roel Construction for a sponsorship, but my boss felt that the donations could be better served elsewhere. So, with the lack of sponsorship, I couldn't get in for free.

Also, It's an ass-long drive for me to get there, and after doing it two years in a row, I just didn't really feel like it this year.

Last, I'm fat, slow, and out of shape, and it's a soggy wet pipe dream to think I could actually ride it this year.

Only one of those reasons make any sense.

Huh...I rarely re-read things that I post. Call me foolishly confident that I'll come across as coherent.

Boy, was I wrong.

That entire post should read:

No, I'm not going.

Hey Frank - good luck tomorrow at the MC. I might see you at the Heartbreak, haven't decided yet if I want to do it or not.
