Sea Otter?

Well, after a long week in Vegas at a trade show (NAB) and only two days riding a stationary bike for an hour, I'm not feeling particularly prepped or stoked for Sea Otter this weekend, but I'm going. Don't know, let's just call it a taper and I may feel great. Something about buffets, smelling like smoke, and a couple of nights of um...excess that doesn't have my confidence too high right about now. Shoulda picked the 35+ Cat IV maybe instead.

Anyone else doing Sea Otter?

If your really that nervous about it you should go up and ride the course. As I said in another thread, our team (about 5-10 or so) is going up sunday morning, you're welcome to come and ride it with us. I'm going to be going easy, I don't know about the rest of them.

thanks, man. i would totally take you up on the invitation, but i'm doing the torrance race that afternoon. my thinking is that it's my last chance to get a decent result before two consecutive weeks of suckfests

too far. states weren't part of my initial goal for the season unless they just sort of fell in the path of the schedule i'd chosen. then when RAAM came up i had to chop a couple of races off that schedule.

Yeah, maybe if I don't eat for the next two weeks, I'll be good for Punchbowl. No need to have nerves, you will either hang on the climb or not, and it will quickly become evident. Just have to watch out for Matt Kinder or similar attacking on the climb. Everytime I've done that race, it has splintered. Hydrate well and bring lots of water and someone to feed. Maybe we can get some help there.

i'll have a teammate doing the 5's who is supposed to feed me and vice-versa. i'm sure he'd be happy to help out whoever he can.

Yes he is, he's a good friend of mine/teammate/training partner. I think he's seeking redemption from a bad day at Orosi

Do you have like an RSS update on the socal page or something because you always respond in like <5 minutes.

*looks at clock* alright. i'm going easy this week because after the omnium this weekend i had a few people tell me i'm overtraining. i'm going to do about 11k' of climbing tomorrow, and i know that's not exactly taking it easy, but i'm hoping for a relatively easy pace. it'll be my second ride this week.

Easy week = 1-2 hours max, in small ring on the flats, but still riding. 11k worth of climbing is not easy. The point of a recovery week is to be able to hit the intervals harder next week.

shows what i know.

they actually told me to stay off the bike completely and skip the race this weekend. that ain't gonna happen, and i had already planned to do yesterday's and tomorrow's rides. so... this'll have to suffice.
i'll do the small ring thing in the future, though, so i can at least satisfy the hankerin.

Off the bike is for when your overtrained to the point that it's not fun anymore, no motivation. Recovery weeks are, well just that, and should happen about once a month in addition to days after intervals. Do a week of that or even 3-4 days and see how fast you are when you come back. It's torture to go 10 mph for 2 hours, but boy is it fun when you can crank it up again.
