Irvine: Wednesday and Thursday evening rides
I checked out the Sand Canyon Cyclery ride tonight (Wednesday) and it was a good group. We got gapped at a light less than two miles into it, so the group split, but it was a good ride nonetheless. I'll be out there again next week!
Some of the riders were telling me about the Thursday night group ride out of Deerfield Park on Thursdays at 6:00. I'll be there tomorrow to check it out. Anyone want to join me? :D |
How about the VeloSport ride?
|
How far does the Sand Canyon Cyclery ride go, what pace, what route, etc.? I work (almost) across the street from there.

They said that as it stays light later, the distance will increase up to 28 miles. |
The Thursday night ride out of Deerfield is actually a BCI ride, and there's one Tuesday night as well; they both start at 6. I was out there Tuesday before last and there it was the World Championships for those guys (there were no women), so it can be a pretty fast pace. There were only a few people out, but maybe Thursday is different. I'm not certain on this, but I don't think those rides have *officially* started yet. They are doing them informally because of the earlier time change. YMMV.
wattsup? |
I might start doing some of these rides...once I recover :)

I think we did 18ish miles...I was data free tonight. Leaving the shop we took Laguna Canyon, then right on Quail Hill, then took the Shady Canyon bike path, climbed Newport Coast, down San Joaquin Hills, right into Back Bay then University, some bike path over the freeway and then some residential streets back to the shop. Hope that helps!

Do you know what time you were going through the Back Bay area? I was riding through there last night with Lenny and we passed through it twice between around 5:50 and 6:30PM. We saw a group of maybe 10-15 peeps or so. Were you in that group by chance? I also saw a lone rider down there last night that was sporting the socal forums jersey...I asked him as he went by if he was a forum member but got no reply...must not have heard me.

You all passed me, the wife and kid going up Shady Canyon. The group was in two distinct groups, you could tell they got caught at a light.
I actually recall seeing you in your kit, I was basically track standing on my MB, waiting for the kid to make it up the hill. I'll have to check out that SC ride as I've been looking for a mid-week group ride. I sometimes with with BCI on the weekends. You must work in the area, because HB is a far drive to ride with a group! |
Yes, I work right near the airport. I was stressing to get to the start on time!
|
Also out of Irvine on Tuesday and Thursday nights, OCRR has rides out of Windrow Park, http://ocrebels.com/WindrowPark.htm. Distance varies with available daylight, but there are usually two routes to choose from. I won't be there tonight, but I usually ride at least one of these rides a week.

What's the pace like on the OCRR rides?

OCRR's weekday rides usually have two groups with the longer, harder ride being fairly fast, avg. 18 -19+, depending on who shows up, and the other group more moderate at 16-17 or so.

Hey Brandy, I remembered you on the Sand Canyon ride. Typically it splits up into two. The fast group will wait briefly on top of Newport Coast. Jim or Josh from the shop will keep an eye on the second group if either one of them is on the ride. The construction interuppted the normal route so we made a left on Harvard instead of going straight.
In summer, the route will extend up to 30 miles. From San Joaquin, riders will make a left on Marguerite down toward Corona Del Mar. After PCH, hang a right toward Backbay, then back to PCH, up to Westcliff. The route comes back to University. I also ride with Jim on OCRR's Tuesday and Thursday night. We try to pick one hilly route and one flatter one and by summer, some routes do go up to 24-30 miles. |
I'll be there again next week wischkid. You were obviously with the faster group, right?
Oh, and George and I made it out to the Thursday night ride last night. It's a really good group of people. Two nights in a row I was invited to dinner after the ride and we took them up on it last night. I'm looking forward to making this part of my weekly schedule and hopefully my lungs will cooperate so I'm not dying out there sooner or later! :p |
SC Cyclery do great work btw, they rebuilt my rear Ksyrium sl hub and only charged me $40, no problems since!
