Bike Week Pasadena, May 12-17, 2008
Bike Week Pasadena: See The City in A Whole New Way
With Guided Tours - Workshops Film Live Music - Expo
Bike Week Pasadena 2008 encompasses a week of festivities that celebrate and encourage bicycling as a healthy alternative to the automobile, May 12 through 17, 2008. All Bike Week Pasadena activities are free and open to the public.
Highlights of the six-day event include:
Three guided bike tours themed to appeal to cyclists of every category. Ladies Night, sponsored by InCycle Pasadena, (Tuesday, May 13, 6:00 P.M.) is a women's-only road ride that winds through the streets of Pasadena to the Rose Bowl, and returns to the One Colorado Courtyard for mini-clinics, food and refreshment. Tour de Pasadena, sponsored by REI, (Wednesday, May 14, 6:00 P.M.) is a co-ed ride that will explore city streets and neighborhoods. Heaven on Wheels, sponsored by Pasadena Cyclery, (Friday, May 16, 6:30 P.M.) is an easy-paced and social tour of Pasadena's famous Bungalow Heaven that will return to the Trio, in the historic Pasadena Playhouse District, for live music and tasty treats.
The Urban Bicycle Commuter Expo on Saturday, May 17 (10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.), will boast a wealth of exhibitors focused on encouraging transportation cycling. Kick off an incredible day with the Helens Cycles sponsored family bike ride led by Pasadena Vice Mayor Steve Haderlein. Then enjoy all that the Expo has to offer as bike shops, bike manufacturers, accessory manufacturers and local advocacy groups come together to present the latest bicycles, fashion, gear and information emerging from the ultra-hot urban bike commuter scene. Attendees can experience how-to workshops on bike maintenance and bike commuting. Entertainment will include live-music from Very Be Careful and the BIKE chic fashion show-a showcase of apparel suitable for cycling featuring the "most beautiful" bikes. The Expo will be followed by an outdoor Film Screening of the animated bike classic, 'The Triplets of Belleville', under the stars in the picturesque One Colorado Courtyard (at 8:00 PM).
For further information, please visit www.CICLE.org or call 323.478.0060.
Bike Week Pasadena is a citywide effort to highlight the benefits of bicycling. Riding a bicycle is an easy way to exercise, reduce traffic congestion, minimize air pollution, cut fuel costs - and a wonderful way to meet your neighbors. This weeklong salute is presented by city of Pasadena Department of Transportation, One Colorado, Cyclists Inciting Change through Live Exchange (C.I.C.L.E.)

Anything going on tomorrow night? My wife is working late that day, and I promised to hit the gym with her tonight.

Hmmm, well I'll join Friday night if my wife has to work late again. They should move the riding in traffic workshop to Saturday morning starting at Descanso Gardens at 8am

I had so much fun last night!
Try to come out whenever...I will be "officially" working the Friday ride.
Saturday should be good, too... and my fixed gear bike will be there on display as a "work in progress" from the Bike Oven, they have a table...

Alice,
I probably going to end up at tomorrow's event through Pasadena. It's considered a moderate to advanced level ride...how fast do you think the group will be going? Are we talking 20+mph?

Oh, never mind...the Tour de Pasadena is tonight. If you'll pardon me, I'm going to learn how to read a calendar.

The pace tonight is about 15-20?? (no way can I hold 20)
It is a no-drop ride.
There may end up a "slow" and "fast" group. They are playing it by ear.
I will most likely be in the "slow" group...

I second that. Definitely a fun ride! Nice weather. Good turnout.
Anyone know what the total mileage was for the Tour de Pasadena ride last night?

Well, I didn't get to take part in the festivities (looks like I'm taking mom out to dinner tomrorow night), but a couple of my coworkers knew it was bike to work day today and mentioned that even though they've seen me biking to work many times this year. I hope other people who tried it for the first time liked it and continue with it.

The Expo was super and I finally scored the Metro goodies that I missed out on...
Grrlyrida came out and kept me company during my bike valet shift. She rode all the way from Silverlake!
Thanks again you made it really fun!
