Packages stolen from in fornt of my house:cry:

Someone stole 3 packages from in front of my house today while i was out dropping off packages to ups store for work. Sadly one package had my new oakley mtb jersey. Im very pissed , not because of just the jersey but the fact that now i have to worry about thieves waiting for the ups truck to drop boxes off in front of my house, specially since i have a new computer and a $140 nashbar purchase coming next week. I surely cant stay home i have to work. Also for nashbar they didnt give me a tracking number. Im pretty pissed off. I hate thieves. Any suggestions on what i should do? Anyone know if its possible to have UPS make it so if any packages are addressed to my house that they do not leave them in front of my house, or hold them and have me pickt hem up. Specially since i receive packages weekly for work, which im sure the person whole stole my stuff noticed. I cannot afford to buy a security camera at the moment. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I believe read somewhere that it is possible for UPS to drop your packages at their UPS store and for FedEx at Kinko's. It means you have to go pick them up, but it beats the hassle and aggravation of theft.

Yeah, thieves suck! I was at work the other day, truck parked near an open door and someone broke in then stole my stereo. I had a bumper sticker showing that if the stereo was disconnected, it was disabled. Idiots stole it anyway! Stole all my copied cd's and mp3 discs too. (All copies were made from my purchased originals) Hope they like Elvis, Tom Jones and the Drifters!...But they were kind enough to relock and secure my doors when they were done!

I thought of calling the PoPo but figured I'd sit there for hours and they couldn't do carp about it anyway!

I'm tempted to skip on a new one figuring I'll have to go with the alarm and all.

Sorry to hear about that. May be you can have the sender or carrier to send your packages signature required for delivery. Since you won't be home to sign for the delivery, the carrier have to leave you a notice for you to go pick up at their depot.

A simple camcorder can be bought cheap. Unless you get a car license plate on it though the police wont be able to do much. I suggest a .357 with hollow points.

Well nashbar said they dont offer any stuff like that on standard ground since they use USPS, so if they use usps that meant eh mail-man will bring my packages, i will wait for the mail-man on monday and give him a heads up and ask him to put my package in a plae thats hidden tha ti will make tomarrow. as for ups i will call them tomarrow for 2 of the packages where shipping supplies i need for work so i need ot call my account manager and have him send again also will ask aobut them delivering to my local ups shop since that is right next to my college that wont be a problem. Thanks for the great suggestions guys. I seriously feel tempted to just order lots of supplies and act like im not home and wait with my baseball bat to see if they person comes back for mor eof my stuff then suprise them, but then again iw ill probably get arrested for assault. I cna also pull a citizens arrest which apparently according to a friend of mine is perfectly legal for me to detain the person, i do have some zip ties i can use as hand-cuffs. That would be fun. hah.

Fake security camera from thinkgeek.com... won't do jack, but might be a deterrent.

Is there a better spot somewhere around the house to "hide" packages? Like behind some bushes, or around the side were the gas/electricty meter are where the packages won't be easily seen?

Since i live in a corner house where people walking by can easily see the front porch, sometimes what i'll do is leave a easily seen note taped to the front door (or doorbell button) to instruct the UPS guy to leave stuff around the side next to the gas meter. That way everything is out of sight until i get home. I usually only do it if i know nobody else is going to be home and i have expensive stuff coming.

THIS!

One Round. Even if you miss, the sound of that hand-cannon will result in the immediate and complete evacuation of the perps bowel.

Put another note on the door: "Honey, I ran to the store for beer and ammo. Back Soon!"

Or how about a crime scene chalk outline of a dead body on the sidewalk in front of your door?

Sorry, I lived in LA for way too long.

UPS will hold all packages at the drop location and that could be farther away. I have never tried to have them deliver to a UPS Store...

I always choose a shipping option with a tracking number, sure I pay a few bucks more but I alwqays get my products.

That depends on where you work though. Some places frown on it, other places (like where i am) have their own internal mail department which have a reputation for losing stuff at inoppourtune moments... And sometimes it's just a hassle to provide a second shipping address (or some places won't accept a shipping address different from your billing address).

Sorry to hear about your packages. Any chance you can get it covered via shipping insurance/claims?

Hey, you can have the local post office hold all of your mail (including the USPS package) for a week, so none of it gets delivered to your house. Just go down to your post office and tell them you want your mail held, and later go in person to pick it up. We do this when going on vacation all the time.

If you have a good relationship with your postman, you can ask him to throw the packages onto your backporch. When I order my biker shorts and other stuff, my postman goes to the back fence, reaches around the corner of the house and tosses all packages onto my backporch. My dog Daisy
is really zealous about guarding any packages that she can get to. You can't ask for a better package security system than that.
Ernest

PS: You can call UPS and ask them to hold a package for you to pick up. The seller should send you a UPS tracking number through email and you can make arrangements for pick up at their main office.

well see problem is usually big places dont do signature only option. As for send it to my work addres, my house is my work address i work at home, 2 of the boxes where shipping supplie si use for work. Wateva like i said the jersey wasnt super expensive i can buy another. I know my ups guy, i talked to him when he dropped off some packages, and no i didnt make him feel bad or anything, sh$t happens, if someone wants to be a theif they are ganna figure out a way. Also i have a patio in front of my house my packages cannot be seen from the side-walk so i knwo it someone that sees the ups guy drop off allo so he probably desisded to wait for me not to be home. Whats great is the ups guy who goes to my home is also the guy who picks up at the ups store so i told him not to leave packages and if im not home leave them at the ups store, and he said he would leave a note on my door to let me know when i get packages also. Talked to my mail-man also, asked him tha ti had a package coming and if im not home to leave a not and just hold it a thte post office. But i should be home for the usps one because he drops off at a time im always home working. The ups guy drops off usually a little after i leave to make my drop offs, and yes i make my drop-offs on my bike, its pretty kewl i get payed to ride my bike kinda heh. but yeah i got it all taken care of. I just home no one ships fedex to me ahahhaa. But i will worry bout that when it happens. Thanks for all the input and kind suggestions. That post aobut someones security camera getting stolen had me rolling.

With FedEx you can tell them you prefer to pick up your packages at the closest FedEX office to you. You may be able to do this with UPS. Mail has been stolen out of my mailbox and I told my carrier that if something did not fit in my locked mailbox, then I wanted it returned to the post office and that I would pick it up. She agreed. In the future you can try having packages delivered to your work during business hours. I also hate thieves. Why cant people work for thier own $h!t

I think you can ask to have to sign for packages with some delivery services...not sure...otherwise, ask to have the packages left with a neighbor who IS home that you trust.

its never failed me.
