Anaheim route
I'll be staying near Disneyland in a few months for a 2 weeks and was checking out Google Maps. I want to do some riding there and was thinking of riding east on E Chapman (from Harbor Blvd) to Santiago Cyn and continue south to Portola Hills. I'm not sure what streets would be best (least amount of traffic/and lights) to return on. Or maybe just backtrack. My question is, how is Chapman and Santiago as far as traffic and road conditions?
Any suggestions as far as other routes? I'm familiar with Katella leading to the Armed Forces Reserve Center, but that's about it.

Chapman is urban and can get heavy with traffic at times, but no big deal. Santiago Canyon is one the best places to ride in Orange County. There is a wide shoulder, traffic's not heavy, and most drivers are courteous. If you like to climb, there are a couple of options. You can do Silverado, which is a 5.5 mile climb, pretty steady and not to steep. There's also Modjeska which is about 1.5 miles with a couple of switchbacks and kicks up over 15% for a bit. If you want longer loop, continue on through Live Oak (left at the Harley hang out) and keep going. You can do an out-n-back or cut over to Irvine Blvd, make right on Jamboree, back up to Chapman. Most of the roads are going to be used for the Elite Nationals in a couple of weeks.

Cool. I had checked out the SART thread a number of times, but I didn't know there was an entry point so close to where I'm going to be. That helps.
Thanks

I'm OK with Chapman, but a lot of people wouldn't like it between the 55 and Cannon. Katella/Villa Park Rd/Santiago Canyon eastbound is a good alternate, which dead ends at Jamboree, then you go a block southbound and pick up the rural part of Santiago Canyon.
Also, if you take Katella, you can go northbound on Cannon and get some hills in Anaheim Hills. You could return back via Nohl Ranch/Lincoln to the SART.

SART(East) to Weir canyon(South) to Serrano(SouthWest)to Canon(South) to Chapman(East). This route would be the nicest roads with the lowest amount of traffic. If you want PM me a few weeks before you get in town and I could get a few people to ride with you.

Any major street crossing the SART has a entrance onto the trail. Personally I would take Ball Rd east (it turns into Taft Ave) until it crosses under the 55 fwy then turn right on Wanda st, take Wanda to Villa Park Blvd and turn left. Villa Park Blve turns onto Santiago Canyon Rd. Santiago Rd has a nice bike lane and some small climbs. You can turn left up Siverado Canyon Rd, it's a five mile climb at around 5% grade. You can continue up Santaigo to Madjesica Canyon and climb that too. That whole area is bike friendly.

I'll be able to ride until around 4pm or so during the week. No weekends . So I don't know how that would work for you if at all.

On a clear day, you can see downtown LA from Serrano. If you do this route, I would advise that you do it with a group - SART to Serrano on Weir Canyon is pretty hairy. I live local, and stopped riding that stretch. (PM me if interested in my shortcut.)

From the Marriott, I figured I'll take this route to the SART. It shouldn't be too bad. It's only 2.5 miles. https://www.mapmyride.com/route/us/ca/anaheim/59126577
I'll map out my route to Santiago later and see what you guys think. I'd like to avoid heavy traffic. Especially riding on streets I'm not familiar with.
Thanks

At Featherly Park, take Gypsum Canyon Road south (under the freeway).
Turn right at Santa Ana Canyon Road.
Turn left at Riverview (the light just before Weir Canyon).
A.
Right on Amberwood - follow the road.
It ends at E. Canyon Vista Drive - turn right.
Road turns into Serrano when it crosses Weir Canyon.
If you're coming from Anaheim, exit Lakeview (at Kaiser Hospital), turn right.
Cross the freeway, and turn left at Santa Ana Canyon.
Follow SAC for a couple miles.
Turn right at Riverview (The street after Weir Canyon).
Pick up directions at A above.
Since I ride that stretch at least twice a week, this shortcut lowers stress considerably.
