Who's racing this Sunday in San Marcos

Will be there shooting for fun ;) won't be there all day but if you post up your club/team/bike i'll try to snap more shots of you than I would otherwise.

jsigone 07-23-08 11:44 PM

I'll be there as a 5, on the Ranchos and riding a celeste Bianchi. since its our's clubs race, I have to work most of the day after my race. should be fun and not hot either.

merckx89 07-24-08 12:01 AM

I'll be there in the 4's. Black and blue Bicycle Johns Kit, Cannondale system six bike.

mkadam68 07-24-08 08:06 PM

I'll be there. 4's first, then hanging around for the 35+ for some training. My son will also be there, doing the 10-12 JR's.

Say hi to me jsigone. Oh, and stick something in merckx89's spokes. I might actually stand a chance against him, then :D

Seriously, looking forward to seeing you there, merx...racing against the best makes me better.

merckx89 07-24-08 09:05 PM

I just need 5th place. 2 more points, and I get my upgrade. From what I heard the climb is about 4-7% for about half a mile and the course is about a mile and a half long?

esammuli 07-24-08 09:21 PM

The hill is big ring and about 15-20 seconds long followed by false flat for 300 yards to the line.

flyin tiger 07-24-08 09:24 PM

It will be my first race so i'll be with the 5's. How exactly is the race set up? is there a set number of laps to complete or is it as many as you can complete in the time limit? i know i could search for this but i was posting here anyway, thought i'd ask. Any tips aside from staying off the brakes and keeping both wheels on the ground?

alicestrong 07-24-08 09:32 PM

Not me...:p

But I can be a fan...:thumb:

efficiency 07-24-08 09:57 PM

The race is set by time. You'll race for awhile, and then sometime towards the end they'll tell you how many laps to go until the end of the race. The amount of laps that they tell you is chosen such that the race finishes in the allotted time.

Tips:
Follow wheels, don't lead the entire race.

ChromeSE5 07-24-08 11:19 PM

I wanted to go to represent my team (CSUSM), but sadly I have work.

Same.

What a blast that course is! I learned a few valuable lessons here. This was my first race. 1) train for the race 2) don't start at the back 3) Work on more efficient pedal stroke. My goal was to finish and that happened. I was the last person to finish the race and not get pulled. How did everyone else do?

efficiency 07-27-08 11:20 AM

I woke up at 8:30 and haven't left the house.

good job! i showed up to watch the pro1/2 race...the course did look fun...are you doing any other races this season? I have yet to race....but I'm sure my first time strategy will be similar to yours.

Gest24 07-27-08 06:23 PM

It was my first race too. I held with the pack for about 3 laps or so. Then the climb got to me. For not racing since 02, finishing felt good! Time to prep for the Ladera Ranch crit.

mkadam68 07-27-08 07:20 PM

Boy...flyer was a wee bit misleading  eSammuli's description was definitely more accurate, BUT, did not reflect the severity of the course at speed. Of course, probably just be me.

Lasted 2 laps, then OTB. TT'd by myself for another 6+ laps, looking for others that had to be dropping off. Never did find any. Friends told me later, yes, there were others behind me and in front of me. Race official (hereafter to be called, "PowerTool") finally pulled me as I rolled through S/F line.

Oh well...too big & heavy to be a climber.

Was this a Cat5 or 4 race? If so, why pull someone just because they are slow? Are they really creating any danger by being on the course? Especially in a Cat 5 race, isn't that supposed be for beginning racers? I mean, they have to be since that is the lowest cat you can race in....

Now if this was a Cat3 or higher, I might be able to understand. But, again, if they weren't causing a safety isssue....

enjoi07 07-28-08 11:25 AM

^^how is it not a danger for others on the course...especially in cat 5?

Cat 4 race. And it happened in other cats I stayed around to watch. Pulling riders who are about to be lapped (as I was) is standard practice in crits. I figured it was coming, but, I just kept losing time up the climb and couldn't really do much about it. ::shrug::

I refer to Power Tool as such because of other issues...not the pulling of riders. He seemed to be very anti-social and on a power trip.
