This goes up and down the coast. My wife just (finally!) bought a bike, so we spend the occassional weekend down on that path. She's not ready for the streets yet, so this is where we go together.

The trail is good as long as you are either out early or in the late afternoon. For the middle part of the day, though, it gets so crowded with pedestrians, roller bladers, and people riding beach cruisers obliviously that it's more dangerous than the streets.

OTOH, there are a bunch of bike lanes in the streets in the South Bay, and a bunch of formal and informal groups with whom to ride.
