Story on Lance & behind the scenes politics

Here's a link to an AOL Outdoors Fanhouse story that goes into the desperate politics of the owners of the Tour de France. Yea Lance!

Its a new account, give them the benefit of the doubt.

Typically, these are in the 'Road Cycling' forums. SoCal forums are typically community relevant stuff.

At least someone is posting here.
Rleavance or not, this place is like a hollow shell compared to the past...

It's cycling related, so I think it's OK.

It's like a ghost town around here.
Even if it's not cycling related, it's okay with me.

I wonder why it's become a ghost town at the Socal bikeforums.net. Has everyone gone off to other forums, or has the posting on forums thing grown old?

Maybe because it's off-season (much as the season in SoCal is ever "off") and not so many cyclists are riding.

I have no idea, really.

Hi Rick!!!! Merry Christmas to you!

The people who were serial posters got mad, pulled out and went elsewhere. Alot of people went with them.

I know the forum is now very quiet and sometimes boring, but it is more friendly, more relevant to local cycling and now fairly g - pg. I like it better but that's just me!

If you want conflict and nastiness, come down and play with us in P & R!

Yeah I haven't been riding as much. I've been running and swimming (at my schools heated pool ). Somehow I can't just lug myself out of bed at 5 in the morning to go riding when it's the off season. Right now the only time I'm riding is for my commute to work and back and if I have to get somewhere. Come January though I'll probably have to start cracking down. But I'm sure by then that won't be enough time. Oh well.

All the locals are here!....I'm really shocked that more don't post. I have my SART thread and have many time thought of letting it go thinking it's not viewed by others. Just when I think about it, a rider on the trail will ask if I'm Mr.Beanz. Plenty of others have mentioned that they really enjoy viewing the thread, to my surprise. Some have even gone as far as to say they look forward to it!

So I know many riders view but not many post. I keep meeting others because of the thread and the site, so I'm here cause, so are the locals!

One rider posted a ride in other forums. I suggested that he post it here. Had a bigger turnout after he posted it here. So I know they are here, just don't post as much. I've gotten info tha even those that say they have left forever, are still lurking. I'd almost bet they're under new names!

I remember I took some time off then came back and everyone was gone, saying goodbye in some coffee post. This used (still is, just not many ppl left) to be the best community out there. Maybe was the same reason I took a break, seemed every post I made had several people insulting me just for the sake of impressing the other forumites.

Thanks Beanz,

I feel better now . Good to hear that lots of the riders are still here, even if they have become lurkers.

Nothing wrong with lurkers, of course, but that's just not the way I am here (I do lurk on another forum (non-cycling) though, so I know the feeling).

Hope to see you on the Camino Real Double, Feb. 21, 2009. Registration is open now!

Best Regs,
Rick / OCRR

I still post here on occasion, but I generally reply more than I start topics so I go where the action is (the road forum). I wrote about my modified mulholland ride and posted in the TdF report thread.

Just my personal opinion... but it's interesting I think the "gang" drove away a lot of locals - they hang out on other forums (I find them elsewheres). Just need to find a way to bring them back in now that SO CAL is more friendly and welcoming. Like I said, I don't miss the old group - I always felt not very much welcomed.

Sorry LL - SO Cal was always famous for missing up threads and going in other directions - your TdF post is now "remember the ole days?"...

I guess I am a "lurker" or viewer mostly. I often post in the mechanics section but love the SART thread even though I ride SGRB. I also ride from palos verdes to will rogers or cerrtios to sunset beach/huntington alot as well.

1) sorry for the hi-jack on the Tdf thread..

I too lurk a little.

There were a few aggresive posters that made an effort to be insulting and less than friendly. I think this chased away quite a few.
Oh and I look forward to Beanz SART thread.
Beanz, havn't been out there is a while, have been Mtb'n mostly, and off the bike for about 2 months. Will be able to get back riding in a few weeks, and hopefully see ya on the SART.

Well after riding in the Tour De France, you deserve some time off the bike!
