SART Journal & Pics....2009

Happy new Year!.. I thought about discontinuing the SART thread but heck, I was on the fwy today and a rider gave me the thumbs up. I know him from the trail. So now my fame has not only grown on the trail, but on the roads and now the freeways as well! People on the trail give a shout out when they pass. Some on the roads to Devore and now the freeways so i might as well keep it going. Maybe someday a discount a the local food joint!

Well my plan this year is to also return to some mtn biking so there should be some dirt trail pics too. Like last year, I will throw pics from all rides in this thread. FEEL FREE to include any pics you think might belong here or even if yhou don't, throw them in! Nobody's fightin' about it! Add to teh collection!

Jan 1 (Thursday.....Rode alone cause Gina's at home prepping the NYday meal for the family. Thank goodness for the buy one turkey get a second free deals at Thanksgiving! I started a bit earlier than our usual since I didn't have to worry about dragging Gina out of bed. It was nice and sunny in ourhomeland but Anaheim was yucky when I arrived at the start. Cold, wet and FOGGY. Darn, I'm tired iof cleaning my bike!

Oh well, headed out and felt tight. Mt Baldy Rd didn't help today. The first 1/4 mile then my leg started to cramp. Maybe it was the cold, maybe I'm old! The day brightened up after I headed back from the coast. Got the first flat of the year out of the way today. As I was leaving the coast I realized the back tire was low. I didn't want to hassle so I chanced it. I pumped it up then headed out. I caught up to our friends Amie and Anh. When I di, either the tire started to go low or Aime kicked up the pace. She pulled the entire time @ 20-21 mph. I just held on watching my tire. They both ran some marathons this year so I know she's in good shape. I did hear Anh breathing hard at times, I think we were in synch, sort of harmonizing!

Made it back without having to pump it up so I was happy. Then I hear some dude yelling my name. Usually it's Gina shouting my name so this thru me off and I didn't recognize the guy. That and a new jersey. Turns out to be MTBLurker, surprise visit to the trail. Haven'st seen him in awhile. So he shows off his war wounds then heads to the coast. As I head home I wonder why all the cool guys wait till the sun comes out before they sart their rides?

Arriving at the leaky ftn area

Looks foggy! Dirty bar tape is only an illusion of the fog

Unsuspecting Eric Anderson

Cool Dude MTBLurker

Yesterday, New Year's Day, I noticed the burned areas of Yorba Linda didn't have the burn smell anymore. All that's left is the charred remains of the trees and brush. On my way to Green River, and parallel to the 91 there was one spot where the mud ended up on the path. Actually it was quite a bit of dirt, semi dried, but still heavy.

Happy New year all! Again, wonder if we crossed paths on Thursday Beanz. I did about an hour north of the Honda Center around 3 PM. Coming back, although still murky, was nice w/the sun setting. Rode another hour today and hope to get out there tomorrow. I need to start packing a camera! I spent 20 mins trying to find the Rampart parking spot and finally did. Beats parking at my buddy's place and riding to the trail on city streets!

I'm glad that you are continuing this thread. A lot of people would be irate if it went away. For example I understand you have quite the following in Turkey

These things are inexplicable - like Germans loving David Hasselhoff, but hey, fans are fans and they must not be disappointed.

Happy New Year to all!

Yes, this thread is awesome!!! When I saw the pics from Mr Beanz and other members last year, it gave me the motivation to ride this trail... the SART journey's a great experience for me! I will do more of this route this year for sure!

Many thanks to Mr. Beanz for his effort on keeping this thread alive, and to other members who patronize it as well Thanks for the nice pics!!!

Any organized SART rides this year?

Well, glad others brought up the point that the others like the thread. Gives me some encouragemnt to continue the pics. Plus it's great to see new riders hitting the trail, maybe motivated by a few of the pics!

Not sure about any organized SART rides..yet! A bud just mentioned today that maybe a ride from HB to Danapoint and back. Coffee shop and pizza at the end. Says about 50 miles on PCH, have to think about Gina's handling skills on that one!

Today 1-3-09 was a 53 miler. Cold but ended up to be a decent day. Did get a few drops on the last 1/2 mile, figures. But ended on the drive home, cool. Did manage to run into another new BF'er (Gus). Nice bike and friendly dude, young guy! Ran of rather quickly when it started to drop. Must have been the new bike! But it was nice to meet him! Saw a few of the regulars, just a little harder to reach the camera when riding the tandem and being wrapped in plastic for rain protection.

Did see the couple with the Big red/maroon truck that parks at Rampart. I don't know their names cause Sarah is terrible with names and couldn't tell us what they were. But they have become frequent users of the trail and new BF members as well. Maybe lurkers but I know they have seen the thread. Soon I'll find out their names. I saw them wave as they rode by but was a little late so more than likely they didn't see the return wave. I was slow today, like most days!Haha!

Pics in chronological order so feeling are never hurt!

Gina and Me, thinkint we were the only ones

Then they started to show, Sarah

Alex

Fairly new member GUS! We met for the first time, nice guy nice bike!

You got me Bean! I'm still enjoying my 'new bike smell' too much to get rained on, haha. Wasn't too bad out there yesterday but those clouds were getting pretty ominous and they finally let us have it. A shot or two from yesterday, January 3rd,

^ A bit south of Imperial Hwy.

^ Seemed awfully quiet out there.

^ Grey or not it was a beautiful day out there!

^ The Beanster himself!

^ Gina, cycling photographer extraordinaire.

Great running into you folks, Bean. Have to put in girlfriend time today so no riding. See you on the trail!

Sunday the 4th. Another 50. A better day but still windy! I wanted to do an ez pace after a migraine yesterday but no way with the wind kicking up the way it day. You can see the HUGE flag near Imperial was blowin' pretty good. When it does, lots of riders are in trouble for sure!.. My plan for an ez pace started with a 10 mile section, busting arse to maintain 11 mph!

Near the coast, Obie and a couple of buds caught us from behind, couple of OCRebels. That explains it!....He only chatted for a minute or two then continued on with his buds on their ride.

Gina enjoing the tailwind and the HUGE flag in the background

Obester in full kit

Kept looking for you guys. I started about 9:15, rode out to the Green River GC entrance, then back down to the south (bridge) end of the SA River GC, and then back to Rampart. Pics are still in the camera.

We only went as far as Wier. Gina kept mentioning we hadn't seen you. Didn't think you'd go to GR with the headwind. I guess you're just a badarse! I was expecting to see you at the coast, guess not!

Hey Beanz, I finally made it to SART too but I guess it was too late to see the meaner-beaner. I was there around 1:00 PM, you must have been drinking beer by that time. I was glad to see the bike path in a very good condition, at least the section that I rode between Weir Cnyn and Tustin Ave. What time do you normally get there? Hope I'll see you next time. And yeah, keep this thread going.

We start at Rampart/57 (A Stadium) about 9:45-10:00 am. We first head out to Gypsum Cyn (Weir if it's a short one) turn then head back to the coast. Leaves us a 12 mile short return from the coast to the truck after a break. Today, we ended the ride at 2:30. We were more than likely out ther but on the lower section.

I heard ya ZoomTT, just forgot to throw it in the story!(I'm a gettin old)...What's happened to your group. I saw you 3 today, Jose, Sergio and another yesterday. Seems like lots of small groups of your, but no "whole enchilada"!

We split for today. Jose, Bong, Don, and a few others split from us at Crystal Cove and went to Santiago Canyon from Laguna in preperation for the Ocotillo Team Time Trial.

Friday the 9th...a little sumthin different, some offroad at Claremont Hills Wlderness Park in....Claremont. Just some firetrails but did two loop so that's some good 5 miles of climbing.

From the bottom, top is upper left of the hill

Near the top, came from down there

Near top, came from lower right, going to upper left

Crashed here a couple of years ago. That's some hard stuff!

Hey Mr. Beanz,

I should have gone to Marshall Canyon and met you up there at the park instead of going up GMR today. Still not sure of going SART tomorrow though.
