Tour de Palm Springs
Doing Tour de Palm Springs again this year since we had such a good time last year. Just not going to get the pasta dinner (it was pretty lame). Anyone else doing it?

I'm thinking of it this year. I've skipped it so far because it is so big, but I suppose I should do it once.

Planning on doing it again. Last year was my first century and I was told this was a good one to start with. Since then, I've done two more centuries. I plan on going with a friend of mine. This will be his first. I had a great time last year...

Don't mince words
It was our first tandem century two years ago (my 9th since March '06). We've never seen so many tandems on a century before! It was really fun and really easy, rather flat overall. I liked riding past all the date "orchards" and recognizing the names -- now I know where my dates come from.
We skipped last year and probably will this year too. My husband's project at work is ramping up and and he'll be lucky to get 1 day a week off, let alone 3 or 4. Hope you get decent weather for it.

I've done it a few times on a tandem with my son and daughter. It makes for a fun weekend with the family. In fact, Saturday we were cycling and Sunday morning we trammed up the Mountain and were hiking in the snow. Good times!

I'll be there. You can expect the "Train of Awesomeness" to come out of our camp with at least 5 powerful tandems in which we call "Tandempalooza!"

I was planning on ride the Tour de Palm Springs this year (had a great ride last year!), but my boss had other ideas . . . so I'll be in Birmingham, U.K. on that day, probably in the cold mist/rain while you are all enjoying cycing in the warm dry air of Palm Springs.

Update....the CPK meeting place on Palm Cyn Dr is probably out. They moved the start location to the convention center.....
Does anyone know the area, and make a suggestion for a good meeting place?
thanks

About 3k+ feet....nothing major...mainly some desert type roller climbs.....This is considered one of the best first timer centuries....
The 2nd 1/2 is more urban....
The mass start is a bit interesting....stays crowded for the first 5 or so miles then thins out as the climbs start.....
1st 2 rest stops can be crowded....
Not trying to scare you off...just telling it like it is....
This will be my 4th or 5th time...overall a good ride!!!
Do it!!!

How is the parking for someone that doesn't want to spend Friday night? I haven't registered yet but I was planning on making Palm Springs my first Century and then in April making the Hemet Doubble my second. I have two or three other rides that want to go with me and I have the biggest vehicle so I might drive. With that many people I wonder about parking.

I think an early morning drive up is in order if I ride this. The nearest campsite (tent) that I can find is up in Pinyon Flat which is 28 miles. Anyone else here from SD wanna consider a ride share? I have space for 2 more on the rack, I'd be leaving around 4:00ish...
