Help an aussie out!

I'll be heading stateside at the end of January for a conference in Ontario CA, I have a few days to spend and wouldn't mind checking out some trails if the weather was good. Trouble is, I'll be travelling sans bike and might also need a guide for the trails.

I do a lot of cross country trail riding and road here in oz, would be happy to get out and explore on either trail or road, riding any bike is better than sitting in a resort or being bored to death on a cheesy tourist bus tour!

Any offers of help?

I don't know very well the Ontario area, but if you are prepared to drive on the "wrong" side of the road you can check Laguna Cyclery. They rent road bikes, I'm not sure about mtb. Their address is:
240 Thalia St
Laguna Beach, CA 92651
Phone: (949) 494-1522

I ride a 54cm road, 18" or medium mtb.

I won't have any transport, apart from organised tour buses and wherever my legs can take me.

I should probably clarify I commute 60km round trip each day to work, plus regularly ride 100+km (road) or 4-6 hour trail rides on the weekends. I'm 36, only ride socially (the odd road or mtb race here and there).

A standard climb just outside Riverside is Mt. Rubidoux. Lots of trails Its about 1400 feet as I recall. Lots of trail rides to pick from When you find your bike. pick up Southern California cyclist magazine. A free bee handout. You might connect with one of the many bike clubs listed in that magazine.. Off road... So many canyons to choose from. Take your pick...A favorite of mine. The Santa Ana trail to the coast. You might go with a group tho. Cyclists have been known to have been mugged near Corona.

Thanks for that CZ

My holiday has been extended now due to flights, I have a few more days up my sleeve and am now researching guided tour companies for bike daytrips proving harder than I thought. Problem is, many shops don't have email addresses listed so I can't ask them questions

You could try the Claremont Wilderness loop not too far by, or Chino Hills Park. Both have great trails, although Chino Hills recently burned (about 3 months ago).
