OT: Souplantation

Anyone else likes Souplantation a bit too much? I am seating here and craving that place. At home I have all the ingredients for a tasty, and healthy, fried rice, or other stuff, yet I really want to go to that place. I have no clue why it is an expensive salad bar with some soups and baked stuff. Plus their chocolate mousse is delicious.

I feel like I gain 10 pounds every time I go there. Too bad the kids love it so much. I don't think they know how to even spell "protein" at that place. Total carb-fest.

UmneyDurak 01-12-09 08:53 PM

I disagree. It really depends on what you choose. Salads (not prepared ones, but actual veggies) are not carbs, then they have soups that have tons of lentis like their Vegetable Bean & Barley Stew, Garden of Eatin', or X-treme Spice Vegetable Chili w/ Energy Boost. Last one is my favorite, but it's not spicy even in regular sense let alone X-treme. Lol. Then there is Indian Grain Bread, has tons of protein.

Of course I can't resist baked potato with sour cream, green onions and soy sauce. :)

Chucklehead 01-12-09 09:10 PM

I usually don't even get salad when I go there. Pizza, clam chowder, cookies, ice cream, etc.

Popeyecahn 01-12-09 09:23 PM

Man just reading this thread is giving me gas...

Very dangerous place. That and any all-you-can eat casino buffet. Years ago a cyclist vegetarian friend of mine was addicted to Souplantion, but he hated eating alone, so he would pay for my meal to go along with him. A no lose situation for me, so I ate there a lot. Let's see, my favorite stuff was all the salad goods, with plenty of macaroni salad, soup, pizza, baked potato w/sour cream, bread and butter, and ice cream. Fart-a-lot City. The healthy part was riding our bikes there and back.

UmneyDurak 01-12-09 10:36 PM

Lol, thats nothing. THE most dangerous buffet has to be either Indian or Korean BBQ. Although there is this really good buffet in Silver Legacy in Reno. Every time I am in the area I make a point to stop by. Although haven't been there in few years, so it might have closed.

Blazing Saddles all the way.

Speaking of Blazing Saddles, I just had Panda Express. Keep clear, for your own safety.

My wife and I go there to get the carbs, but there is such variety and it all looks so fresh and good (probably is), so yeah, we pig out.

This is only after a century (or equivalent) where we've done some serious carb burning, not as an every-day thing for sure.

Excellent clam chowder!

Enjoy... or not!

Love the place. I used to go there to eat healthy, but I probably ending up eating more food than I would had I gone to McDonald's.

Garfield Cat 01-13-09 09:42 AM

If you have kids, try this:

At the dessert bar, take your water drinking cup with a little water. Go to the ice cream vending machine and put in some vanilla. Then next to it, there's the chocolate syrup. Add that and then stir. Presto you now have a chocolate milk shake ala MacDonald's. Be careful with the chocolate syrup, there's a tendency to put in too much of that syrup. It will get too strong and won't taste like the MacDonald's.

The other thing the kids like is banana split. At that same dessert bar, take a plate and get a banana and split it with a butter knife. Then add the vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup and sprinkle on some crushed nuts. If you want, there's fruit sections in a sweet glaze there too.

Imagine, all the chocolate shakes and banana splits you want.

I'm pretty sure that vegetables are all carbs, just not high caloric.

But at Micky D's you'd be eating all low volume high density foods while at SP you eat high volume low density foods.

SP for the win! :thumb:

nesdog 01-13-09 11:53 AM

We get to SP regularly....really like the salad I make! I also go for the pizza slices but grab the end ones that have much less cheese.

If you sign up for their e-mail list, they send out coupons all the time. For a long time, they gave you a 15% discount with AAA. Too bad they stopped that.

It is a bit expensive but offers a nice selection.

But they also have very high fiber content, so I really would not call them high carb food.

I finally got around signing up for their Veg club. There is 15% off coupon in my mailbox. :thumb: Guess where I am going for dinner tomorrow? :D

One of my favorite things used to be put a bunch of mushrooms in to their Asian Ginger Broth. It was so delicious! Too bad they rotated it out of their menu. :(

Popeyecahn 01-13-09 01:15 PM

Hmmm there's a SP over in Carmel Valley, got me thinking for a future date to ride there... note to self; bring pair of street shoes, the cleats could possible make a soupy mess on the floor and a bruise on me arse

dddave 01-13-09 01:39 PM

i ***in' LOVE souplantation. sunday paper coupons FTW! i always make my own salad, then get clam chowder with bacon bits, then get a little bit of ice cream.

Condorita 01-13-09 02:30 PM

Something they don't have nearly often enough (and that's probably a good thing) is their Pesto Pasta. Yummmmmmmmmmmmmm!

wcoastbikr 01-13-09 09:20 PM

I'm guilty of living off high carb foods. Speaking of which I just had a little over a pounds worth of home made mashed potatoes. :thumb:

As for SP...I'm not a fan of it. Never been a fan of buffets.

urbanknight 01-13-09 11:10 PM

Not me. To me, it's a great place to go when you just can't decide what you want but you're ok with bland food.

Mo'Phat 01-14-09 11:37 AM

My refridgerator and my wallet are going to love Souplantation when my boys are teenagers.

They could go at about 10 am and stick around 'til dinnertime. No better way to feed growing boys.

Garfield Cat 01-14-09 01:15 PM

Is there a rule that prohibits you from carrying in some food into Soup Plantation? If so, bring along your own pizza topping like those pepperoni disks and put that on their pizza like bread.

If you like Indian curry, bring along that jar and put it in the lentil soup.

Would it be too much to ask Soup Plantation for new menu ideas? For the kids, hot dogs and french fries.

dddave 01-14-09 01:48 PM

i remember once in high school my buddy and i went with our girlfriends and tried to split food. the manager came over and got super pissed at us and made us go pay the extra dough for our ladies. they were barely eating anyway!

Probably, but I think in situations like these it's better to claim ignorance then ask for permission. Managers rarely go to the floor, and regular employee just doesn't care.
