I was driving down the 5 yesterday and I could see them moving the new generator towards San Onofre. That thing is ENORMOUS.

That must mean that the highway from Basilone to Las Pulgas is open to bicyclists again!!!
Yippee!!!
I actually enjoy riding on the 5, so this is good news for me!!!

I put both ear buds in on the onramp and turned the volume all the way up. I want it to be a surprise when I get run over by the person doing 75 while texting.

I was driving back to OC from SD this weekend and saw temporary "bikes must exit" signs at the scales and at Basilone, now I know why.
Between Las Pulgas and Oceanside, I like both the freeway and base routes, depends who I'm with and what kind of ride I'm looking to do. But between Basilone and Las Pulgas, I would really like to have the option of an alternative to riding through a campground, bad pavement on old 101, dirt/mud through the tank crossing, etc.
If the shoulder is really that bad, it wouldn't be too much to ask of them to sweep it before they have a temporary opening like this.
