The one in Malibu. It's become an annual tradition of mine to ride it on Superbowl Sunday. Total ride was 19 miles from my home and the climbing was over 2500 feet. Now before I'm called a commie for not watching the Superbowl, I did make it in time to see that exciting 2nd half. I was home by the end of the 2nd quarter, in the shower during halftime, and at my favorite Italian restaurant with the game on the big screen for the 2nd half.

Tell me that's a bike path, mup, or one-way road. What the heck is that? It looks narrow. Also your weather looks a little hazy this week. Carlsbad/Leucadia had coastal fog, but inland was great.

The lower 4 miles is a one way. Not for group rides. Caution is advised. Ears wide open. And yes, there was some haze in the air. Part of the haze was pollen no doubt, because the hills had come alive this weekend with fresh growth and blooming.

I'm guilty of not even watching the Superbowl...never been a fan of football to be honest. Call me when World Cup is on.

That area really reminds me of Mountain Dr. in Santa Barbara. I've been wanting to get some climbing around that area for some time, but just getting there from the south bay, doing a fair share of climbing, then crawling all the way back to the South bay is usually 100+ miles. Not that I can't do it, it's just it's just it's a lot of time and I find I get kind of bored on longer rides when I'm alone.

I use the highest quality setting when taking the pictures, then do additional cropping and image adjustment (brightness/contrast/saturation/picture size) with Photoshop.

Truth be told I enjoyed the ride more than the game. However, my company while watching and sharing a brew could not have been better - the girl who works the weekends is also a glamour model, and a football fan!

Thanks. I carry a similar camera with me ( Kodak ), but my pictures never look like that. I guess I lack the "gift".

Don't be so modest. Post your best ones! Key elements to photography are subject, framing and lighting. This camera ($125ish) has a feature where you can easily lock in the exposure setting by pointing the lens at a different location other than your intended focal point, pressing the shutter button halfway down, then return the lens to your subject focal point and fully press the button. Solves a lot of exposure issues when taking shots outdoors in bright light or shade. The rest of it is framing, which can be further tweaked via cropping in a photo editing program. With digital photography, you can easily take several shots of the same subject from different angles and exposure settings to get the perfect shot. Those that don't cut it are just erased.

I have to confess that because my profession is videography, understanding cameras and "seeing" subject matter is second nature. By no means am I the best, but I do know enough to earn a living and still have fun with it.

Wait, so you climb Tuna Canyon going the wrong way on a one way road that is frequented by cars? I'm honestly asking, not being sarcastic.

I suppose you chose the best possible time to do it, but please exercise caution- Plenty of gearheads love to bomb that road on the way down because there's no oncoming traffic to worry about.

The number of times I've gone up Tuna (now just once a year), the traffic has always been very light. This past Sunday mid-day, there were maybe 6 cars and 2 motor bikes. And I heard them well in advance so as to prepare. It's not for the casual rider, I agree, but then neither are any of the climbs in the Malibu Santa Monicas. It's a considerable challenge because of it's steepness, and a risk in some sense, so it's to a narrow group of riders who will find it intriguing. Not that I'm recommending anyone do it. Because it's so local, I just can't help myself once a year.
