I saw hundreds of bicycling riding together near UCLA
I believe it was on Saturday january 24... i walked out of gypsy cafe in westwood and going to my car... and hundreds and hundreds, and hundreds of bicyclists all in one giant group were riding together. All sorts of different bikes, a lot of people looked like they could be from UCLA. What was this group? Does anybody know? I would've loved to be a part of that force. It was amazing to see such a thing, I've never been a part of any bicycling group, are there many in LA? Thanks

Bunch of different ones. Crankmob and Critical Mass are two big local ones - I believe they both have websites.
For sure, I think they're more fun if you're <21 years old. Even more if you're <18, since it's an excuse to stay out late and hang out with folks slightly older than yourself. They also don't ride much - they go for about 2-3 miles, and then regroup for a hour+ while they socialize. Wayyyy more of a social hangout than a bike ride. Very few 25yr old+ folks there, which makes me think it's more of a thing for HS kids to do at night since they can't go to bars n clubs, but I could be wrong about that.
As a M33 looking for a real group ride, it definitely was the way wrong choice for me . Fortunately, I found the LaGrange cycling club's regular Sunday AM fast racelike Nichols Canyon ride with 40-100+ strong riders, which is truly amazing.

Nice, thanks man. It would suck if it was only 2-3 miles long, that's like only 10 minutes long! I'd rather go for an awesome 2-3 hour bike ride with a group. I wanna get involved tooooo!

www.midnightridazz.com - Lots of evening social cycling events. The slower social rides go 15-25miles with lots of stops, but there are faster rides as well.
