Got my bike stolen
Riding along the beach bike trail in long beach last night around 8pm. A guy ran up to me and pushed me off my bike. Next thing I know two other guys ran up and one pulled a knife out. At that point I was over it and was like fine just take my bike which it was obvious that it was what they where after. Just thought it would be a nice warning to other people in the area who ride that path at night. This is my first time ever having problems on that trail.

That is really depressing. I like to ride the path at night in LB too. What part were you on?
I am thinking I should stick to riding the roads. I would rather take my chances with cars, now.
Glad to hear that you didn't get injured.

This takes me almost 30 years. I had several friends who lost their Schwinn Spitfires that way while growing up in Long Beach.

This wasn't just stealing a bike. It falls under the definition of "armed robbery".

Two of the guys ran off and went up the stairs that lead down to the beach and the other guy just rode my bike off. I pointed out on the map below where it happened.

at least if gives me a good excuse to get another bike. but just a warning to others who ride that path. I ride it almost everynight after work never had anything bad like this happen to me before. If you are gonna ride this path at night just carry some sort of protection on you just in case.

I ride the LA river path everyday. Sometimes it gets a little seedy but thank God I have had no problems yet. You know I have been thinking about carrying mace especially after some of the neighborhoods we
go through with these late night rides.
What kind of bike are you looking at?

Let the cops know. They caught the jerk that was doing this on the SGRT. Maybe they can catch this imbecile as well.
The important part is that you're OK.

Sorry to hear about this...another reason I hate riding at night. The creepers tend to come out at night and cyclists tend to be easy targets. The thing that's interesting about California is that very nice areas are usually very close to the not so nice areas full of idiots that will do this kind of stuff. Long Beach is a great example, you have multimillion dollar homes a few miles from lower class areas.
Post pictures and a description. If you haven't already file a report with the police. Check craigslist and ebay religiously.

glad you're OK and wasn't hurt. Good thing they only wanted your bike. Bikes can be replaced with better bikes.

Oh my god, as someone who lost her bike recently, I can totally feel your pain. I hope they catch the *******s who did an armed robbery job on you.

Wow. I was starting to do some night rides on that part of the bike path. I guess I can never be to confident in my surroundings. Good luck with the search for a new bike.

Did you report this to the police? I really sympathize if this is a true story, but something doesn't seem right to me about it so far. No details on the bike from you, no police report despite knives being flashed, no typical "outrage" posts that usually occur from people who post about these things, etc. Regardless, stay safe - it would be very unfortunate for such a well-traveled route to have these sorts of things occur. Condolences if it's real.

it sounds like the op had given up completely about his bike once he saw the knife... tahts why no raging posts...
altho descriptions might still be nice.
a friend of a friend had his bike jacked too by a group of guys aswell. unlucky for him he was stabbed several times and ended up in the hospital. this happened in long beach next to the water too.

p120ud213azn,
When did your friend get stabbed for his bike. I am surprised that I have never heard about bike-jackings in the local Long Beach paper.
