where to ride from Ladera Ranch

Hello Socal. We are from michigan and taking a trip to socal for some spring training. We will be staying in ladera ranch, near ladera cyclery.
can you recommend any road bike ride routes?

good scenic route? best torture mountain climb? any good routes to PCH? easy miles flat route?

any recommendations would be great!

Head up Antonio to Rancho Santa Margarita, turn right and then a left at the T intersection onto Live Oak and then a right turn onto Santiago Canyon for a pleasant hilly ride.

Ladera Cyclery does rides. Sat morning and I think a day during the week. They are very nice and helpful I'd ask them. If you have only a short amount of time a good ride is Antonio(south) across Ortega and up to the dump, repeat that hill a few time (usually a head wind) then back. Sunday is a great day for that as the dump is closed so no traffic and nice green hills with horses to look at.....oh and no smell from the dump

Check this thread - there is a route slip in the original post. This ride goes to PCH and avoids the crappy section of PCH in Laguna Beach. Here is the elevation profile according to bikley.com - about 4,500' of climbing in 61 miles.

good stuff everyone thanks!
we did ride at Santiago canyon last time we were there. I do remember seeing a biker bar (not the lycra type), then the pace lifted a hair.

that dump climb is pretty good one, as we have also done that. I think I burned a set of pads trying to stop for the light at the bottom. good stuff though.

We will defiantly try that route slip from the mentioned thread. Cant wait!

if anyone has any more suggestions, we are all ears.
