Tour de Poway 2009

Who's doing it? Are there any groups training for it? I'm planning to do this as my first century ride.

Thought about it only because the one lane on Poway Rd. going up will be closed to traffic for a couple hours, so I can use the road and make a mockery of that hill. But then again I'm not sure I want to pay money to do a route I ride any time I feel. It goes right by my house too (no, it is not a secret control with steak sandwiches and hot shower). Don't like that so much.

Looks good. I'll do it. Probably the metric century, but maybe the full if anyone wants to TTT it and shoot for 5:30-6:00.

I'll probably be there. It's not as expensive as some. I like that its on a Sunday. My Saturdays are busy that time of year.

Smack talk begins....I'm AARP certified....and rode the 102 miles in 5:00 hours from start to finish last year.

If you are going for time you have to climb really fast for the first 8 miles so you can be in one of the faster paceline for the rest of the ride...

doesn't this defeat the purpose of the ride? i thought it was to ride around and meet other riders and enjoy the scenery. I can do a 5 hour hammerfest century whenever i want.

I thought all the tri chicks were at the Encinitas Century? Besides, by the time the Poway Century comes up, the tri season is over.

N00b Fail! The Encinitas Century was all about Posing with the tri chicks and avoiding them between sag stops. You know, like the old Spy Hunter arcade game, you have to dodge all those cars that keep getting all over the road and in you way.

By the by, I'm planning on doing it. If any one finds me on the course heading out of SP Valley after Highland, I'll make my house a secret control. I have "punch and pie".*

* Beer.

Considering I got taken down by an unskilled tri chick at the Encinitas Century, I'll avoid them this time around, thank you.

This looks doable for me.

So who's doing the Century & who's doing the Metric?

Anyone interested in meeting up? Any landmarks, specific time?
I'll be wearing this yellow jersey, white helmet, black Felt, ssparkly-red clown shoes, with blinky, rear-facing red lights on helmet & seattube.
