Pismo Beach Routes?
I'm heading to Pismo Beach in a couple of weeks for a friends wedding and I'm looking for some routes in the area - about 40 miles, rolling preferable as gf will be riding along as well. I thought about the stretch from Pismo down the 1 to Guadalupe perhaps, looks pretty damn flat tho... any suggestions?

It's pretty flat for most of it but after you pass through Oceano there are some good rollers and a nice park-ish area that you go through. Overall not a bad ride. Not sure about inland routes from there.

I seem to remember the roads up the hill from Point San Luis and Avila Beach being pretty interesting. I've only been there on a motorcycle though. Diablo Canyon looked really inviting on the map, but the friendly guard at the gate had an M16 around his chest. (Post 9/11 hysteria, FTW.)

If you want to add more climbing and the schedule works for you, you can ride 50 miles to Lompoc and then take the Amtrak back to Pismo.

When I toured that area, I got tired of the fog as beautiful as the coast is.. I headed inland. And rejoined the coast near Lompoc/ Solvang. I followed the route recommended by Adventure Cycling . Near Pismo Dunes State Park we went inland on Oso Flaco Lake Road towards Santa Maria.. Near rolling road admist a scenic valley.. From Santa Maria south on Foxen Canyon Road in the Santa Barbara wine district to Solvang area. nice diversion. In the southern part of Foxen Canyon , you have some nice climbs.

There is a really cool bike trail (if you can find it) that takes you out to Avila Beach. I love riding the area just to do that bike trail. It has a name - I'm sure someone can ID it.
Also you can ride up from Pismo to SLO and there is all sorts of riding inland around the wineries. Check out the SLOBC (San Luis Obispo Bike Club) website. I'm sure some of their route slips are posted.

This is a nice ride in the area. It is called See Canyon to Perfumo Canyon. You could start south of course and not from SLO. Great view!! But there is a short gravel section with cows!!

edit: just re-read the original post. You are looking for a rolling ride and one for the GF. Well this one isn't it. But the country road might be worth it.

I'm sorry, by the time I got home from work it was mid-night and I forget to send you some rides. I'll get them for you.
