The East Grade is a creampuff compared to the South Grade. It's longer, less steep and much less traffic. The only downsides are the asphalt quality is not so good, and there is no shade at all because of the fire a few years ago.
But we'll be riding up and down both grades on the 27th, yes?
Kevin & I got lucky there on Aug 21st--patchy clouds and temps in the high-70's/low-80's.

+1 what Calamarichris said. Here are some numbers:
Hwy 76 (from the taco shop) + South Grade is about 12 miles. South Grade alone is about 7 miles, 7% average grade. No downhills, just a short (0.3 mi) flat section before you veer left from Hwy 76 onto South Grade. East Grade is 11.5 miles (from Hwy 76), just over 4% average grade. There are a couple of downhills though, so when you climb, it is more like 5% avg. Don't underestimate it, it's pretty hard especially after climbing South Grade.

Is there any truth to the rumours that this is also a poseur ride?
I'm confused about this point but, am willing to bear up under any distractions on this epic climb.

Your track record's not doing so hot, Hoss. And there are somethings one can't unsee. Please stop.

Any ride with me is a poseur ride... I told you before - there is a professional photographer on site. Man, I would sponsor this guy just to have him there. I'm sure all these motorcycles behave much better simply because they know that they've been watched.

Those are nothing, as long you've got enough speed when you bunny-hop 'em.

Just making sure, it looks like temps will reach into the low 100's that weekend. As the ride is in the morning, I would think that to be less of a problem, but it still heats up rather quickly. Is the ride still on?
