Tour of California Hwy 39 will open?
Uhh.... I knew stage 6 was Pasadena to Big Bear, but I did not know this: "Stage 6: Pasadena to Big Bear.
The queen stage will include 13,000-14,000 feet of climbing up to one of the ski resorts in Big Bear. Race organizers are waiting on clearance from the state because parts of the route include areas affected by the Station Fire. If the Forest Service gives clearance, the race would do 2.5 hours through the burn zone. From the start in Pasadena, riders will climb up to Crystal Lake, summiting there at 8,000 feet, then descending into Wrightwood and climbing back up to Big Bear Lake."

EDIT: Sorry, please disregard. I found the original thread.

i've got the sinking feeling that this stage will be truncated and start
instead in wrightwood...
if the light rains that hit the burned areas a week or so ago are any indication,
then any significant precipitation will force the route out of the burned area.
the stage may still finish in big bear but the areas affected by the station fire
are primed for big-time mudslides and debris flows. heaven forbid if the
rains are more than average because those roads are going to be ripped to hell
and probably will be anyway with light rain. would not want to be a
business/homeowner anywhere near the burn areas in the san gabriels/angeles
natl forest this winter/spring. my best wishes to them because they're living in/next to/
below a time bomb. the second part of the play is (unfortunately) about to begin.

We've discussed this in another thread and it would take quite a bit of work to get Hwy 39 ready for a caravan, but I think it's possible. I've been up that very route 2 weeks ago and there is no fire damage from the Station Fire that far east, only some burned area down low from the Morris Fire.
