the drunken bike event

i ran into a friend in santa barbara who told me him and his friends created this event one day with 10 people and it balloooned into an event that happens every year and now has about 200 riders everytime it happens.

unfortunately i wasn't much into cycling when he told me about this so i didn't really care much; but now i do care. Does anyone know the even that i am talking about, and when it takes place.

basically i think it starts in downtown santa barbara and goes west to the ucsb campus and all along the way, the bikers are getting wasted on alcohol and crashing along the bike trail. At the end of the trail, everyone stops at one place where they bring in tons and tons of boos and get completely smashed. does anyone know the name of the event in question?

That sounds so wrong and illegal, yet so enticing

Boos?

Or boos?

Sorry to be a wet towel, but if there were such an event, announcing the time & place on the internet would be a terrible idea, since we can get DUIs for riding bicycles while drunk. (CVC 21200.5)

Sounds like most Midnite Ridazz get togethers.

But I'm guessing you're not old to drink yet, right?

Why go downtown to get your drunk on? Just cruising IV with friends while blotto sounds like fun. Is The Study Hall still there?
Gosh-heck! I'd feel out of place cruising around IV without at least some chemical in my bloodstream.

In defense of the lad's plan, a good portion of the ride would be done on an isolated bike path. I used to ride between IV and downtown all the time, (always sober though.) The only downside is that it's a long way to ride drunk--you'll be cotton-mouthed & sober long before you get back home.

Way back in the day (late 70's - early 80's), there was the IV Bike Race, where the participants would follow a pick-up truck full of beer kegs, which stopped every half mile or so to let everybody get their fill. They could barely make it around IV, let alone from downtown to IV. My roommate, Uncle Igor, infamously threw his bike off the cliff at Dog Sh*t Park during the '80 Race. Ah, good times.

So what you're saying is that I need to run another pose ride but stop at pubs? Don't encourage me. Because I'll do it. On the fixer even.

i know that the event is real....it was some time in summer, my friends were talking about it for a week or 2...on the day of the event, there were numerous reports of the race from different sources, including a friend who was in it....the impression i got is that the people who join it actually keep going and running from the cops.....the cops cant really go cruising down the goleta bike path in their cars because of all the other cyclists and joggers, so my assumption is that the cops were on bikes too; however, the cops weren't as fit as most of these cylists who joined, and there just werent enough cops for the 200 riders. I did hear of some arrests being made at the final stop though. The only problem is that i dont remember the exact date of the event. If i were to join, i dont think id be drinking....id just be in the back watching all the action and maybe have a few drinks at home and a party after the ride with friends who participate, although the aspect of drinking and riding with such a large group does sound kind of fun yet dangerous.
