Poor College Kids Road Race near Santa Barbara

Hello SoCal bikers!

I was wondering if anyone has ever done this race before or have ridden on the race course. It is coming up this Saturday and the location of the race will be on Zaca Station/ Foxen Canyon Rd.

If anyone has any info on this, I would gladly appreciate it!

Thanks BF

umd has posted the course profile before, I'm sure if you search you can find it pretty quickly. There is only one real climb, but its really not all that long. The course is an out and back, and the road is pretty narrow.

I am unofficially unattached, but I plan to register under the team for a local bike shop called A Road Bike 4 U. They will be starting up a team this year and is officially recognized by USA Cycling.

Are you doing the cat 4's? I was wondering if I should do 4's or 35+. I am not in great shape at the moment, but if I am going to drive all the way out there from Tustin, I might as well make it worth my while.

I'd do the 35+ if I were you, because I'm already planning on winning the 4's.

if you're not in great shape you should do the 4s, many of the 35+ riders are strong cat 1s + 2s

yes, do the 4's. At any race 35+ usually is the second fastest race of the day, only slower than P-1-2.

The finish is on a downward slope on a narrow road. So big gearing and positioning is key.

Cat4 field was packed until we hit a crash on the way back going up hill. Then this is where I suck, the road got steep and I blew up! As soon as I reach the top, I had to sit on someone's wheel to recover. Then on descend, I started to catch and pass 10-20 guys..but it wasnt long enough to catch the front. So I finished 45th out of 90..bleh. Its time to loose weight and work more on the hills.

Nope, got crashed out. Apparently the competition was terrified and took action to prevent the inevitable.

With a second lap I would have been able to catch onto the lead group. Crashing out right before the only real climb of the race sucks, even if you go full gas trying to catch everyone else is going full gas trying to get up the hill first.

Ditto here I would have placed better. There's always next time.
