I'm planning on doing it again. It was my first organized century last year, so I'm thinking about making it an annual thing. And I want to see if I'm any faster this year. I've spent more money on equipment, so that should make me faster, right?

Another one for the century, but judging from the map, last year's course was a little better.
I was so proud of myself for finishing in 4:59 last year, until I learned I missed a turn and cut part of the course. Am going to pre-ride the course this year and bring along the route sheet to be on the safe side this year.

Here's the course in Gmaps. (Clicky) The Green balloons denote the aid stations.

I plan on doing the century for the first time. If you see a bunch of guys in orange and blue, I'm probably in there somewhere.

there is no sneaking. i just start and finish with everyone. i bring/buy my food and drink. there's no shortage of minimarts and gas stations in north county, and i hear the pb&j they had last year was less than good. rofl check out the upscale mcdonald's in... wherever it was. del mar? rsf?

what is different about this year's route? be careful of those stranger-filled pacelines. should be np to break 5 hrs now that you can measure every watt. when are you preriding?

They have us turning RIGHT at Del Dios Highway, and eventually South through Fairbanks Ranch & Camino del Sur. Last year we turned left at Del Dios and rode up to Bandy Canyon (which is where I missed the *&#%$ turn.)

I might ride it this Saturday. You game? Going to embark around 6:00 so I can ride up Poway Grade before the traffic. The weather's supposed to be mild this weekend. If I don't ride this route, I'm riding a 100-miler somewhere!

So they took out the Highland Valley section? Too bad, that was probably the second best part of the ride next to the Poway Rd with a bunch of cyclist.

Highland Valley is indeed a sweet, sweet road. It's one of my staples. They probably took it out for the same reason all modern frames come with the lawyer-lips on the drop-outs, and you never see those wicked, pivoting tire-swings in playgrounds anymore.

We were supposed to turn RIGHT on Del Dios last year?!?

If so, I feel like less of a buffoon, because there were dozens of us who turned left. There were no arrow markers at that intersection, and taking Del Dios East seemed the logical choice.

If not, take a closer look at your route sheet.

Guess that answers that question. Be interesting to actually ride the correct course this year.

Between you and Dan, we would never be far from a McD's or Starbucks on any ride. But ya, that one is pretty sweet. Maybe I'll hack it this year, or pay, depends. I'll ride the SS. Haven't done a century on my SS lately.

i'm game. is poway grade heavily trafficked or dangerous? we could save a drive by starting in c-bad somewhere around the power station or something

In. Catch and/or find me on the run into Escondido for access to the secret beer control. It's easy: I'll be in black on a white Viner. They say that Poway Road is going to be timed this year. I plan to bring it. I've been working out.

Right on,last year i went gung ho,and powered the whole way,i died up the grade but that was before i started really learning how to climb. This year i might sit in the group more and enjoy the ride,i always say this, but you'll probably see my bike whizzing around.

It's a good way to do it. I'm meeting some friends before hand and may just be social and ride with them on my SS. Or I may put on bigger gearing on the main road bike and go for broke. Not sure yet. Either way I'm going to to make that climb ask for seconds. It's timed this year, so I'm curious.
