    Failed attempt to the Village Defeated by a flat on GRR

    I took off today planning on doing a solo trip up GMR and onto the Village, but GRR had other plans for me. After making it up to the Shack in 1h2m and having a short break I heading out to attack ridge. I make it to about the 6 mile marker and as I am passed by another cyclists I realized I was struggling much harder then I expected. Well I look down and see my rear tire has gone semi flat. I pull off to the side and get the wheel off. After inspecting the tire and the tube, I could not find any reason why it would have gone flat. I believe the stem might be leaking slowly. Well I replace the tire get it on and fill it up with my C02, worked great... but hoping to avoid over inflating, I end up slightly under inflating the tire. It felt very sluggish after that, but enough air to feel comfortable riding on.

    So after I get done with that I take off still planning on getting to the Village. Well after about the 8mile marker I threw in the towel turned around and headed back, beaten and ashamed. Other then not meeting my Village goal, it was a good ride. Nice cool breeze in some parts and late enough in the day to have some shade in others.

    My tracking gps on my phone worked great, I will upload the maps & stats shortly. You can see just how close I was to the village.

    Wow, I'm thinking the point you truned around wasn't an underinflated tire. That's the point I mentioned to you last time, the grade kicks back up and doesn't ease until the 17 mile point. If you were at the 8 mile mark on GRR, you had about one more mile to go and you were on ez street.

    My advice is to do the section to the shack with a little more reserve. 1hr 2 minutes is pretty darn good for a fairly new rider and first timer heading to the village. After you complete and know the ride, then you can increase your speed and still know were to conserve and when to push. Good ride though but get to know it before you try to go fast. First time across should be a picnic basket pace. I did about an hour and 6 to the shack while conserving a bit, knowing about the tough section from mile 14'ish to 17.

    Funny, the section you mention your turnaround is the section I told you that many times I (and several others) ask myself/themselves why I'm here on this ride.

    Take your time, stop frequently, and pose on the way up and you'll eventually reach the Village. It's nice there...

    So I just picked up some new additions to my road kit. I got myself a bike mounted hand pump, one of the road morphs with a gauge. Two more spare tubes, two more co2's, and I also cleaned my dirty ass chain and got that working nice and smooth. I am all ready for a successful attempt.

    After further inspection of the tube that went flat, there was indeed a pinhole leak in it.
