Burbank Area Rides/???
Whats up everyone, i've been riding around the Burbank area and parts of Griffith park ever since i started riding back in mid April. I'm getting really bored around here and i usually do laps of the same route. I was looking to see if anyone knows any good paths around here to make it interesting again. I see on google maps that theres a lot of small roads around the griffith park area near the observatory, i ride alone and have never gone up here so i don't know what the terrain/road conditions are like. If anyone can recommend a good path to take with some climbing around here i'd appreciate it, if anyone in the area knows of any group rides as well please let me know. Thanks

If you like to climb, ride North on GlenOaks until you get to Sunland Blvd, then turn right, ride a couple blocks and turn right again on La Tuna Canyon. Ride uphill for a while. Go under the Freeway, ride some more. Bear right on Honolulu, ride a while more. You will reach Montrose. Get coffee. Turn around and ride back. The descent on La Tuna is really fun, but look out for traffic on the spots where the shoulder shrinks down...

1. Take the L.A. River bike path to Fletcher. Exit the bike path and turn right to Riverside Dr. Turn Left on Riverside to Stadium Way. Turn right on Stadium Way and ride up to Dodger Stadium. When you get to the Stadium Gate, turn left and ride past the Police Academy. I believe you turn left at the first light. This road will loop you through the hills above Dodger Stadium and leave you back at Stadium Way.
2. Take you favorite route to Los Feliz. ( I usually ride up the hill at Travel Town then hop the fence at the top and ride up Mt. Hollywood. When I get to the top I ride all the way down to Ferndell.) Turn right at Los Feliz and ride to Franklin. Turn right on Franklin to Beachwood. Turn right on Beachwood and left of Ledgewood and ride up to the Hollywood sign.
3. Take Forest Lawn Dr. to Barham. Turn left at Barham to Cahuenga. Turn left on Cahuenga to Mulholland. Turn right on Mulholland and climb the hill. When you get to the top continue for several miles until you get to Coldwater South. On the left hand side you will see a street called Franklin. Head down Franklin into Franklin Park. A great place right in the middle of the Hollywood Hills. When you leave, exit toward Beverly Hills and ride down to Sunset Blvd. Turn left on Sunset Blvd. and ride to Vermont. Turn left on Vermont and this will get you back to Los Feliz. Continue down Los Feliz until you get to the L.A. River bike path. Take the bike path back toward Burbank.
These are three rides I like to do when I can't do a long ride.

I live in Burbank. As for Griffith Park, there is a road (closed to traffic, called Mt. Hollywood Dr) that connects between the Observatory and a gate at the top of the hill on the road (Griffith Park Rd according to Google maps) that connects Traveltown to the golf course. I ride that frequently when I'm riding in Griffith Park. Pavement is a little chewed up in places, but it is fine to ride. Ride has some climbing in it as well.
Sometimes I'll work that route into a loop where I ride from Burbank, south on the LA River bike path, west on Los Felix Dr (little sketchy with traffic, I'll ride it early on weekend morning), north on Hillhurst (follow Greek Theater signs), turns into Vermont, climb to tunnel by Observatory, take right on closed road just after going through tunnel, ride up (this is road that connects to traveltown hill I mentioned above), get dumped out at top of Traveltown hill and then head back to Burbank Rancho. (Sorry my directions aren't exact, but I'm at work. Google map view will show it pretty well). I ride that area by myself all the time and don't have any problems. Usually see other bikers and hikers out there as well.
I also loop around La Tuna as described above quite frequently. Godo climb, usually a lot of riders. I try to do that ride early on weekend mornings.

Go up Travel Town, at the top jump the fence and keep going. Sketchy pavement but rideable. Descend the City side. When you get to the tunnel take the turn to the right and continue descent all the way to Fern Dell and Loz feliz. Turn around and go back. Some good climbing and fine tune descending skills on some very sketchy surfaces.

Used to live in Burbank, good place to be based because it is central to so many great rides. Curiouskid55 covered a lot of the ones I used to do. Some other long ones include making your way over to Foothill in La Canada area and heading north to Santa Clarita and riding those canyons out there, such as San Francisquito; or go east to Simi Valley; or make your way up to Mulholland and go out to the coast. Someone mentioned the Park ride, if that is the one that goes up La Tuna, that was always good, but it used to only be run in the winter, wonder if that has changed?

Sand Canyon is a nice one, I've done that once so far. I ride from Woodbury University area in Burbank to this canyon, enter from the Osbourne side, it's kind of flat and hilly at first but then starts to really increase grade once you get into the mountains.
