I rode out to Bonsall to do W. Lilac, Couser Cyn and Rice Cyn. Everybody agreed it would be too hot so we rode to Oceanside, went south to Leaucadia then east to San Marcos. I bailed out at the Carlsbad/San Marcos border and went to pose at a coffee shop then came hope and wept during the Chargers and Padres games.

The coast was pretty nice.

I did a hilly 200K on Friday (ride report here) from Pasadena to Piru and back - it was quite warm (though someone did the same route today, when it was absolutely scorching).

I blew off cycling altogether and swam in Mission Bay to practice for a tri I'm doing next month. The icy water actually felt pretty good.

I didn't notice it much, except my heart rate was 10-15bmp higher than usual, and when I stopped at Chuck's (Pac Coast Cycles), sweat was streaming onto his floor. Then at home in the shower, I heard the weather report on the radio. (Duh.)

I hope it cools off again before Tour de Poway.

Gina and I did GMR to the shack on Saturday. 7 am start to beat the heat. After GMR we rode to the end of the road on Dalton Cyn for a few extra miles. 20 miles in the mtns not to bad but at the end of the ride it was hot.

Sunday we rode SART, 42 miles. Nice at the coast but HOT at the end of the ride which was about 2pm. GMR must be paying of cause Gina handled the heat on the trail MUCH better than she has in the past. A toasty Gina but still rode strong in the heat.

Seemed that we only saw about 20% of the riders we usually see on the trail. I'm thinking lots of riders stayed home in the AC!

I did this new ride on Saturday called the Rat Beach Metric Century(started in Torrance and went up into Palos Verdes). It started early but it was already hot. I did OK with all the climbing but I realize now that much of it was shaded. After doing PV Dr. S towards Lunada Bay we turned right and climbed Hawthorne. My inner voice told me ("NO! Don't be a fool! Just stay on PVS and take it easy") not to go that way but like a sheep, I followed my friends. I started out OK but once the road turned away from the coast and there was no breeze, all the fun got sucked out of my ride. I got severely dehydrated and became dizzy, nauseated etc. I had to stop and sit in some shade for awhile. I tied to ride but kept getting faint. I finally pushed myself up that friggin' big , ugly, exposure hill and was ever so happy and grateful to finally see my friends again. At that point my ride was done. When we got back to the Torrance side I just rode back to the car and lunch (In N Out - it was good!)... my friends (bless them) kept going. When they got in they looked like hell warmed over. It was a hot, smoggy, long day...

Sunday I stayed in. I didn't go out at all. My voice is still scratchy from the smog which I think bothered me more than the heat. Hopefully by tomorrow this will all go away. I pray for a good Santa Ana Wind to blow the brown stuff away!!!

Ha! Cool, thanks for the encouraging news. I'll be wearing my usual La Vie Claire uniform with Krusty-the-Clown shoes, but with yellow bartape & saddlebag on my bike. You shooting for a specific finish time?

Did around 45 yesterday for some coyote creek/SGRT, but left late at 7:30 am, and got back just before 11 am. The last 8 miles back to my place made me wonder if I was going to make it home in one piece. Yikes.

I left at 9am yesterday(???) and returned at 11:30am. 35 miles round trip to Santa Fe Dam(today 115 at 1:46pm). It is 108 here in Downey. I walked in and started to sweat like i was under a shower. Better than Saturday when i quit sweating the last 8 miles which kinda got me worried. I was thinking there are a lot of other fools out here, just like me. Today was thinking about going out and doing some intervals followed by some hill repeats, however i don't feel like croaking just yet. A/C and an adult beverage is the order of the day.

I dont think so,i'm doing the metric century, still have yet to do an american/standard century, but i'm working my way up.Last year i did the 50 in 3 and a half, and
according to the site with the pics, was the 10th in for the day,it's a fun ride so that doesnt matter really, but i felt good about it,was riding a walmart schwinn
varsity,7 speed freewheel, with a cool 52/48 chainwheel set up that almost killed me on the climbs. This year i've got a good bike,i'm ready for the climbs so well see
brother,i'll keep an eye out for you at the start since you'll be leaving a little earlier than myself.

You daylight people crack me up. I rode from Anaheim to Riverside and back Sunday, starting a little before 0500. Even after turning around on Victoria Ave in Riverside, it was nice and cool until around Gypsum Canyon on the return. The weekend warriors on the Santa Ana River bike path from Gypsum Canyon back to Lincoln were of high entertainment value. Swervin' Mervins all over the place.
