Riding around Bonelli

Wow, such a neat area for riding, has it all. Parks, restrooms, water and nice riding.

Overlooking Cal Poly and the 10/57 fwys

Agreed, I ride my cross bike over there all the time, seem like most of the trails do not get ridden very often.

Right before hitting SD Ave? It's funny, as I rode by I was thinking a forum member lived there, he posted couple years back. Must have been another member unless you've changed your name. I can't remember the posters name.

You are lucky, great riding grounds!

Back in the days of Boy George, the non-sucky Star Wars, and the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, I used to do triathlons there that had us swimming in Puddingstone, then riding laps around it. There was also a group ride from Ernie's Bike Shop that was pretty fast. Some of those guys used to make fun of my not having a real bike jersey, but most of them got dropped before I did.

This is on Puddingstone Dr., heading toward the airport.

Oh yeah, I recognize the house in the background. Ernie's, never heard of it, where was the shop?

It was somewhere near the base of Mount Baldy. Claremont, I believe. It was a great, high-end shop; but had stuff that a $4.35/hour Albertson's Market courtesy clerk could never afford. Things like C-Record and sew-ups.
Once in a while I'd splurge and buy an inner tube there and feel like a bigshot until it was time to go back to bagging groceries, mopping floors, and shoving colossal trains of shopping carts in that hellish, teenaged job.

Yup, Keithquatch lives in the same condos too. That member wasn't me from a few years back btw.

You can take euclid north to arrow highway and that will take you directly to Bonelli.. The turn (left) is "D" street, which is 1/2 mile past white avenue.. You follow the perimeter of the golf course and it takes you directly into the park.

I love this ride. I ride there from my house, loop the park, go over by Raging Waters. Some short, but pretty steep climbs, quick descents, great view. Hmm, if the weather holds up I think I'll hit it this weekend.

My bud used to live on Town and Riverside Dr Pomona. We'd ride form there.

Town to Grand or Phillips, across white to McKinley (Between Ganesha Park and the farigrounds) taking us to the airport. We'd sometimes go on Fairplex to Via verde or opposite. I don't know how traffic is from that direction nowadays.

The long way around with more climbing: Riverside Dr to Peyton, Grand Ave to Holt (near the 10 fwy MT Sac), Covina Hills Parkway to ViaVerde, then back through White Ave.

Ernie's was a bike shop in LA, they had a pretty strong team back in the 80's. The shop that was in Claremont, you are thinking of is Bud's on 1st street downtown.. It is now a JAX bike shop.

Bud's! That's right. I think I knew a mechanic named Ernie at Bud's back then who wiped out hard coming down Baldy Road one day.
I saw Ernie riding down while I was riding up; then when I was riding down, I got stuck behind a pickup truck and saw this poor guy sitting in the back of the truck with his knees all skinned up and one of his tubulars hanging off.

"Bud's" Bike Shop was owned by Bill McCready (we called him "McGreedy") during the 80's and 90's [Bill still owns Santana tandem cycles]. I was an assistant manager of his Fountain Valley store (Bike Tech) while I was in college.

We had some pretty sweet pro frames in stock. Stuff I couldn't afford even with the employee discount.

I remember Bill, He's a cool guy. He gave us some good instruction on riding the tandem.
