Those Crazy GRR Night Cyclists

I was up on Glendora Ridge Road last Saturday night at around 10PM attempting some night photography. The conditions ended up being rather tough, but I was impressed by one sight..

I saw lights up ahead along GRR.
Must be a car.
Hmm, looks like two separate lights.
Maybe two motorcycles.
Hmm, they are going slightly slow.
Probably just enjoying the ride.
Hmm, the lights seem to wobble slightly side to side like a cyclist's light.
Nah, it is 10PM, that would be crazy.
Well, I'll be. Those lights do indeed belong to two cyclists.

So, to those two cyclists who painted a beautiful path along GRR:

I say, well done. A wonderfully pleasant night for a nighttime ride in the mountains.

Road conditions were good as high up as I went (where these photos were taken..about 2-3 miles in on GRR). A bit of rock debris and some dirt on a few of the turns, but all in all GMR/GRR was in good condition. Worst turn on GMR was where a car had lost control and clipped a part of the dirt/rock wall and scattered a decent amount of debris on the road. If this debris still exists, you'll see it ascending.

Not me, I'd need better lights to go across GRR. But I did do GMR alone a couple months back. Then again a week later with Eyemage. It was freakin cold, in the 30's.

Excellent picture! My photography doesn't compare but you get the idea.

You wouldn't have taken those from on top of that concrete water storage basin right beside the road, would you? I took these shots from there the night after you were up there.

Great photos! I've never ridden GMR/GRR in the dark, but I'd like to. Maybe this summer when it gets warm enough.

Why wait. It's only cold on the way down, and I am sure you can come prepared for that. The weather of late has been good for a night ride, at least up to the shack. It is really nice if done around a full moon, but any time is good. Have done it a couple times, solo, but would be willing to go along with anyone wanting company. Was up GMR about 4 weeks ago watching the Space Station go over, when a large group of riders went by. Must have been a local club, all using lights. Never did find out how far up they went, but we were up at the first saddle for quite a while and they never came past us on their way back down. Mr. Beanz helped put together the ride to the Village back in November, maybe someone can talk him into doing the same for a night ride up to the shack.

I'm sure we'd get some willing bodies out there, to the shack anyways. But I'm not much of an organizer, more of a movie producer nowadays!...I didn't say a "good one".

I forget exactly where the water storage basin is, but I took the photos from that last pullout before you start along what I consider the most beautiful part of the road:

Here is a google maps street view of the exact spot:

Also, nice colors on the sunset, Hillbasher!
