Looking to purchase a bike

I know this is a strange way to go about it, but you all know people! I've been trolling CL and ebay for a while, but just haven't come across the right bike yet. My budget is under $1,000. I'm 6'2" with 34" Levis. I'm 43, weigh 230 lbs. and looking to do recreational rides with an occasional century. Currently, I do about 40 miles a week on a Specialized Rockhopper with slicks. I have not been fit yet, but I've had some LBS's tell me I need a 58 and some tell me I need a 60. Ironically, whatever size I "need" they happen to have just one left of a certain model....IN THAT SIZE!

The most comfortable bike I have ridden to date is a 2010 Defy Advanced 2 in a size Large.

I've been watching ebay/CL for bikes like:

Defy (Defy, Alliance or Advanced)
Allez (love this color scheme)
Motobecane LeChampion Ti (no idea what size because their sizing is jacked. Doesn't matter because I never see any for sale)

I'm trying to stay away from buying on ebay because I'd rather have the $100 shipping spent on a slightly better bike than giving it to UPS.

Ideally, it would be 105 or better, compact double and only a few years old.

I'm open to other suggestions, as well.

I'm hoping to find it local so I don't have to jump on a CL ad the second it comes out. I lead a crazy-busy life and would have to get creative with my schedule to go see a bike. Plus, not knowing my exact fit, I would want to ride it first to ensure I'm not making a mistake.

It's crazy. Every time I find the "perfect bike", it turns out to be a 54 or 56. I'm just too tall!

So, would you mind keeping this in mind? Do you know someone in your club that has something that would fit the bill hanging in the garage? Are you riding my future bike and thinking of upgrading? If you have ideas, feel free to either post or PM me.

Thanks.

http://www.performancebike.com/bikes...551_1078829_-1___ (use a coupon)At this point, I don't want to buy new because I'm only planning on keeping it for a year MAX and upgrading. I think I would lose less if I buy used for now. Although, Rival would be nice.
Thanks for looking for these. I didn't mean for anyone to do my web searching for me, but I appreciate the effort!

ebay is still a good place to buy, but look for local sellers and ask for local pickup option.. I have bought 2 bikes this way..There is a search option that you out your zip code to find local sellers..

here is local seller - selling defy in large: http://cgi.ebay.com/New-2010-Giant-D...item41567482ca

This scott is in the OC but no bidders: http://cgi.ebay.com/Scott-Addict-SL-...item230dfb3a18

Warren out there was GREAT to work with. However, I've been watching this Defy for a few rounds of no-bid auctions and their reserve is right around $1900, maybe a little less this round. A NEW 2011 Defy Advanced 3 is around $1700. This one isn't going to sell at that price...but I love the color of it!

Have you looked on the "other forum" I told you about? If you're willing to go a tad older, someone is selling a 58cm Cannondale CAAD 5 with 9 speed Dura Ace for $750. That's a quite formidable starter bike that will hold its value well if you plan to upgrade soon.
