Horrible fatality in Irvine this morning

There's no official news anywhere to be seen on local news outlets - but as I was rolling out of my neighborhood at the start of my bikemute, I came across a closed intersection, Yale and University (in Irvine). Looked pretty bad. I asked a couple of schoolkids on bikes who were coming from the area of the accident and asked them about it. They said someone was hit. A bike, I asked? They said yes.

So I turned around and took another route to work.

Come to find out from a friend of a friend (so 2nd hand knowledge), who witnessed the accident - a 12 year old schoolkid on a bike crossing University at the intersection had been struck and dragged along with the bike for 150 feet. Don't know if this is true or not. Anyone here have any 1st hand knowledge?

I'm sad beyond words....

Poor that news article was chock full of details... NOT! She was on a bike and suffered a fx'd bone - couldn't even say where! At last she wore a helmet. Thank goodness for that!

Pam - you weren't kidding...might as well have been a tweet.

Since she is 15, what are the odds she ran the light to get on the trail as she was running late?

For a 15 year old, odds are pretty high. Either way, she was very lucky and so was the driver!

My money is on the driver talking on his/her cell phone (or texting).
