Mt. Pinos Road Conditions - Open?

I've never ridden Mt. Pinos Road before, but I would like to soon. Anyone know if it is open as of now, and if so, if it is open to the top? Also, for anyone who has ridden it, how's the traffic level, road surface, etc?

Thanks!

It's probably still closed, but I'm not sure. When it is open there is rarely any traffic and the road surface is good. It starts at 6000 feet and ends at 8300 in 8 miles, or so. A harder climb is Mount Abel which starts at Apache Saddle.
Do the loop counter-clockwise from Lockwood Valley out to 166 to 33 to Lockwood Valley road. 86 miles.

Don't they keep it open so they can get to the cross country ski area? I have ridden to Mt. Pinos several times, unfortunately its always at the end of a 12,000ft day on Sea to Summit. Now that's a ride you should do Rallison. Ventura to Mt. Pinos, 87 miles and 12,000ft. Put on by Teen Challenge, a support org. for teen girls who need help. Great cause. It's May 14th this year. You can get info here. andrea.varty@teenchallenge.org

Thank you all for the info, especially about Mt Abel. I had never even heard that one be mentioned. I'm considering Sea to Summit this year. I still remember JustMe's ride report of it a couple years back.
