Any San diego riders that regularly ride the 56 trail around here?
Hey guys,
I ride the trail fully pretty much three times a day, and was wondering how you manage with the people that..
- Walk their dogs on leashes and take up the ENTIRE trail..
- People that walk in groups and take up the ENTIRE trail..
- Bikers that are on mountain bikes (Obviously little experience) and are climbing a hill in front of you and are swerving from both sides of the trail and can't hear you yell at them because of the traffic from the freeway..
I obviously don't want to be rude and yell, but I use it to commute everyday to school/work and was wondering about what everyone else does..
Thanks guys!

Honestly, there's not much you can do about it. Although it's a bike path, it's really more a multi-use path so everyone uses it. All you can is slow down and pass. Not really worth trying to 'educate' or yell at them because it won't work.

I usually slow down and say "Pardon me sir (or ma'am)" in the best combination of volume and politeness I can muster.
I've noticed that politeness often earns reciprocatory politeness in return. I've excused myself in this manner on the way East on the 56, and then noticed that the same people were taking measures to not take up the width of the path when I encountered them again on my way back west.
Also wave and say thank you when they get out of your way--that always works wonders.

The path is open to everyone, so I use some patience. You may try a bell. It has been my experience that most trail blockers are oblivious, not malicious. A quick "ding ding" on the bell as you approach might be what you are needing.
