My Amgen TOC Ride Report and Vids

What a ride. I figured we'd ride up GMR to watch the riders race our local climb. I was worried as we haven't done much climbing lately. That plus a big Camel Back with 5 bottles of Gatorade, cookies, bagels and a few other goodies. I have to say I was sweating on the first two miles like I hadn't before. Gina as always gives me a hard time when I suggest a climb. She struggled up but after a few milew, she was OK. After the ride, she was pretty excited that we had done something she had never imagined. Heck, we didn't think of this stuff as kids and only thought people riding up a mountain to watch a race was in the TDF videos. Well now we've done it and she says we'll do it again if we get another chance.

We ran into quite a few familiar faces. Let's see, Idoru500 caught me by surprise. He told me his name and I was still at a loss as I know most people by forum names ha ha! He and the Mr.s were on the mountain. Jason rolled on by looking for spot. OC Roadie with his buds. Sorry about the OC Cylist man. I can't ever get the name right while lacking oxygen to the brain. MarkAdam rolled by, Vertical Bob on his new bike(twice). Some dude in a small silver SUV rolled by and shouted "Beanz" out the window. Not sure who that was but it's always cool to get a shout. A SART tandem couple rolled by with some greetings as well. I had no idea they knew Gina's name ha ha! As we were waiting for the riders to roll by, MTBLrkr rode up and tried to steal our spot.

Watching the riders roll by, I'm actually sort of shocked that they looked so young. I guess I'm getting old cause they all looked like little kids to me ha ha! They do roll by pretty fast so it's hard o tell who is who. I'll have to review the tapes!

One thing I must say is the riders on the mountain, wow the mentality is so different from most on the trail. So encouraging! Just about every rider that rolled by shouted, "you can do it, keep the pedals turning, you're almost there!". After so many encouraging words, I almost felt a if I could manage my way up the 5 mile climb that we had planned ha ha! But seriously, the riders on the mountain are GREAT!!!!

Nice pics and stuff. You got some nice pics of the cars, RV's and bikes. I was shocked at how nice their equipment is, you know, cars and things!

Great pics, Beanz! especially the close-ups and the view from above. I was unable to view the video.

We were road marshals on Baldy Rd. between Mills and Padua. After our volunteer duty ended (once they passed our station, we were done), we drive to GMR at Sierra Madre Blvd. ---by that time the road was closed to cars so walked up a ways and got a nice shady spot to wait. Then, we drove back to Claremont village to watch the finish on the jumbo tron. I am sick as a dog but what a great day.

My pics from yesterday

For those that dont understand my comment and/or didn't watch the video, not being rude about his post. It's that the woman in the video waiting for the sprint asked, "is that it?" after 4 or 5 guys rolled by. Seemed like she might have thought that was the entire field.

Adding this picture taken by MTBLurkr.

Baking in the sun waiting for the peleton.

Nice!

Unable to watch the video? Hmm, no problem on this end, lots of views already.

Hey Yeah! You caught me by surprise the second time. First time I thought you 'd stop but figured when you kept going, you were after the altitude gain!

If Yen was outside the US, I would assume the video was blocked like my sped-up night recumbent ride video with "I'm So Excited" on it (copyright crap). But Yen's profile says SoCal, so maybe it's an issue with embedding? I embedded a video once and somebody claimed they couldn't see it. From that point on I started putting the direct link to the video right above the embedded video. No complaints since then

I tried watching them again (the first ones posted) and this time without any problems. Great video, Mr. Beanz!

If a rock hits our window, I'll wave at you as you ride away.

Hey Beanz, welcome on the bandwagon. Where were you in February 2009 when they went up Palomar?
Nice video bro! What time did you get up there? We must have started riding up GMR a bit earlier than you. Bummer, it would have been cool to drag you for a beer after the ride.

Hahaha, don't worry about me, I don't break windows. I did once, had to pay for it learning my lesson....Thanks for the update on the video function. Now I can rest easy.

We started from Sierra Madre and the bottom of GMR at about 10:30. Earlier or faster? I've seen you fly up GMR so more than likely, you were just too fast to see us!

I'd be willing to bet that the poster who couldn't see my video either had an outdated operating system and/or browser, or he was trying to view it on a smartphone. If I look at one of my posts on my HTC Touch Pro 2 with Windows Mobile 6.5 and the default Opera browser, all I can see is the direct link, not the embedded video.

Anyway, I'm glad Yen was finally able to see your vids

Nice pics. Unfortunately, I wasn't available Saturday to be there. I did get to ride GMR this AM, then I watched stage 7 on TIVO running on the same route. That was pretty cool.
