My first 50mi ride!
Hello all! I picked up cycling late last year, and have been slowly adding distance to my rides. This past weekend I finished my first 50mi ride and I survived! I left my house and rode to Rio Hondo trail, then Siphon Rd to SGRT, headed North to the trail end at SG Canyon Rd. I know it's nothing special compare to what some of the folks are doing here, but I thought I'd share.
I'm interested in going south on SGRT some time in the future, but have read about construction points along the way? Suggestions for new routes around the area are always welcome!
Have a good day!

Congratulations! 50 is a significant milestone if you ask me.
It is easy to be humbled by the epic rides done by others in this forum, but each of them had to ride their first 50 miler too!
Keep riding.

Congrats! Soon you'll be posting your first century ride. I did my first 50 miler 2 weeks ago. I am already planning to do my first century during the Cool Breeze bike ride @ Channel Islands this coming August.

Excellent.
Construction on the trail is moving along. I was there yesterday and they paved the part that they dug up but the gate is still there blocking access. If you're coming south you get off the trail at Del Amo, cross Del Amo and get back on about 200 feet south of the intersection.

Way to go!! If you think back a year to when you first started riding, and forward to where you are now, it's very impressive!!

I completed the KOM series of century rides this year. But few years back, when I did my first 50 miler, that night I had a hard time getting to sleep because there wasn't any part of my body that I could lie on that wasn't sore.
Athletic accomplishment is as much a mental feat as physical.
Keep it up, good work. Do you have a goal in mind?

Awesome! I did my first 50 in May, it was really exciting keep riding...or, as my husband was trying to encourage me over the last 5 mi of my 50...doing his best Dory (from Finding Nemo) impression..."just keep pedaling just keep pedaling..."
Funny, but not that funny when you're dying at the end of a long ride
